Pre Poo Hot Oil Treatment for easier Wash Day!

Hi Lovelies! Doing a Hot Oil Treatment before a full wash, greatly helps your hair in terms of reducing tangles by oiling the hair strands and enabling them to glide past each other rather than tangle up during your Wash Day Process. I normally do my own home produced hair treatment but this time around I bought one of these hand made all natural hair treatment online from the company Lush.

These come in a range of natural hand made products. The one I chose was the 'Hair Doctor. 'The ingredients include Coconut Oil,Jojoba Oil, Rosemary and Red Henna. All these infused together work to leave the hair feeling stronger and nourished and ready for the somewhat wear and tear process our hair actually goes through on every Wash Day. The Treatment comes attached to a wooden stick on which directions for use are clearly highlighted.

My hair was left looking and feeling amazing! Any Hot Oil Treatment will work a treat on your Natural Hair prior to washing. Give it a try if not already doing so!

Wash and Go using New Eco Black Castor and Flaxseed Oil Gel!

Happy Tuesday Ladies! After hearing so much about the new Eco Black Castor and Flaxseed Oil Gel, I finally decided to give it a go!

The Gel comes in a new flip top tub, feels really smooth to the touch, not sticky and heavy like some traditional Gels. It has a rather pleasant and sweet smell and applies easily onto damp hair that has a Leave In Conditioner on it. I applied the Gel over my Cantu Curl Activator and let the hair air dry undisturbed for three hours.

Cantu Curling Mousse Wash and Go compared to Gel: My Opinion!

A very Happy Tuesday to you Ladies! So recently, I tried out Hair Mousse as opposed to Gel for my customary Wash and Go, which I tend to wear as soon as the weather gets warmer on this end of the globe.

For this, I looked to Cantu hair products, to be precise as the Curl Activator Cream and the Wave Whip Curling Mousse:

Happy Tuesday Ladies! As you go along your Natural Hair Journey, You will find that you will really come to get to know your hair and know what it does and does not like. Your knowledge in relation to products that work well with your hair will increase, and that will result in your hair looking increasingly better. This sadly can lead to some people doubting the 'Naturalness' of your hair-If that is even a word! I encountered this recently as I will tell you in this video.....

Trichology Corner: Curl Pattern

We have all heard of curl pattern, and have seen several types of curl pattern on people’s head. But what determines curl pattern? Why do different races have different curl pattern?

What determines curl pattern?

Curl pattern is determined by the shape of the hair follicle.

A round follicle produces a straight or wavy hair strand.

An oval follicle produces a wavy or curly hair strand.

A flat follicle produces a curly or coily hair strand.

Most people have more than one curl pattern

Tightly coiled hair is often described as coarse. This is a misunderstanding, because of the bends and turns in the hair strand, it gives the hair a rough feel thus leading to the assumption of the hair strand being coarse, but the diameter of the hair strand can vary with different curl patterns.

This means that someone with tightly curled hair can have very fine hair, which can lead to damage if over-processed due ti the belief that it is more coarse than it really is.

Coiled hair strands tend to be dry, with open cuticles that make it porous. Coiled strands have open cuticles because of the way it grows from the hair follicles in its coiled curvy pattern. It doesn’t allow for those cuticles or scales to be flat against the strands, instead they tend to be lifted.

The coarseness or the fineness of the strands increases the vulnerability of the strands, because coarser strands tend to manufacture more protein and are stronger, and finer strands manufacture more protein and are weaker.

N.B: Remember that when it comes to hair care, there's a lot of fact, fiction, myth and reality on the internet. In the event of any confusion, it is advised you see a professional hair care expert.

Happy Tuesday Ladies! In the midst of the Natural Hair Movement, there is a Divide that is hovering in the Background. Hopefully it stays in the Background and never gets to enjoy the Centre Stage. This Divide is fed by the preference for a softer and more defined Curl Pattern. While not all naturals feed this Troll, there are sadly a few of us who do. And much like with anything that has affected us as Black Women, we need to put it to rest so that our Wonderful Natural Hair Movement does not fall into chaos along clearly divided lines amongst ourselves.
In this short video, I take a view at some of the cracks that if not tended to now, will definitely put our movement in Chaos.
Enjoy the video Lovelies, and don't forget to walk like a Champion Today, and every day going forward!
