Can you tell us who you are and what you do?

Hello everyone, My name is Ellen from Nigeria. I'm a Nurse, A natural hair enthusiast, I bake and cook too. I have a natural hair and beauty channel on BBM and also a Blog, I provide lots of hairstyling tutorials, hair treatments and talk about products, hair care, tips for healthy long hair, scalp issues, etc and also share my food recipes. 

What are your thoughts about natural hair?

I think Natural Hair is BEAUTIFUL, in every form and type. Whether kinky, curly or straight, it’s Unique! 

When/why did you decide to go natural?

My natural hair journey began in December, 2013. I was on a hairstyle that made my hair uneven because I had to cut off the back of my hair, it was annoying. Also seeing how beautiful and versatile natural hair is made me fall in love with it and go into that path.

Did you do a BC or you transitioned?

I had a Big Chop

What was the experience like?

I was so excited to see the new Me on low-cut, lol. I cut it off myself at the first level then I had it shaped up later.

What was/is your biggest fear about going Natural?

My biggest fear was Getting natural hair products at that time, they were a hassle to find unlike now. 

Do you have a regimen you stick to? What is it like?

Yes I have a regimen, but I am not strict about it ’cause of work and also timing. For example if my hair is in a protective style my regimen has to change that period. I cleanse with ACV twice a month, oil my scalp when needed. And moisturize my edges every morning.

    My monthly wash days are like this. Shampoo wash, Protein Deep condition, hot oil treatment and black tea rinse, all following each-other lol. Then I moisturize and style for the week. Usually during the week when my hair ain't in a protective style, I'll rock a twist-out, braid-out, high puff or RodSet. Once I wake up, I fluff, add some oil for shine and voila, I'm done! Then at night I sleep on a satin pillow case. What I do to my hair daily depends on the style of my hair. 

What emotional struggles, if any, have you faced since going natural?

Dry ends and single strand knots!!! Ooh it makes me feel really sad like I’m not doing something right 

Do you think you are in it for the long haul or is it just a phase?
Lol I'm definitely in it for as long as forever! Because my hair is at its healthiest and happiest being natural

There are people that definitely have negative comments about your hair, how do you deal with that?

Negative comments about my natural hair?? NO! Maybe my color. Like when I had it Red, hmmm I had enough on my plate but I told them "its my hair and I can do whatever I want, as long as it makes me happy and its healthy" then they smile and accept it.

What's your must have product and accessory?

That will be my leave in conditioner and bobby Pins.

What is your go-to style?
My go-to Style will be the curly puff.

What advice do you have for anyone just going natural?

Love your hair and it will love you back...accept it for what it is and how it is...don't get caught up into trying to make your hair do what someone else's hair does, it will only frustrate you...find what works for you and don't become a market for everyone who has something to sell...be happy with who you are and the hair God gave you and love life!
