Natural Hairstyles for Teen Girls

Natural Hairstyles for Teen Girls

As a mom of a teenager... ah yes.. she is finally a teenager... I want her to be more adventurous with her hair styles, without damaging her hair. To prep for this hairstyle, she shampooed her hair and deep conditioned it. Then she moisturized her hair and put into about 20 twists overnight.

This hair style can be modified into 5 different styles that your child can do on her own.

Natural Hairstyles for Teen Girls

This is a great style that works for school and even for any festive occasion now that we are in December and all the holiday festivities are going to start.

Natural Hair Updo Tutorial

A lot of naturalistas are of the opinion that styling their hair is difficult to do. Even some of the styles i shared in my Simple Natural Hair Style series, some people would say were hard to achieve. But really if you just break up styles into different steps, then you can easily copy some of the natural hair styles you see.

Recently I did an Instagram takeover for African Naturalistas and I shared the great news that my husband and I are expecting our first child. I wasn't 100% sure if i would do a maternity shoot but decided to do so at the last minute. A month prior to the shoot i had seen a tutorial for a pretty hairstyle on Instagram and decided to recreate it for the pregnancy shoot.

I didn't get a picture of the hair itself from the shoot day but i managed to take a phone picture a few days afterwards.

I hope this inspires you to try new styles with your hair and not be intimidated when you see lovely styles online.

Best wishes for the weekend!

Easy Natural Hair Styles - Part 5

Hi there,

Today's the second to the last easy natural hair style I will be showing you. This is actually a natural hair high/mega bun - remember when I showed a tutorial a few weeks ago. I decided to try it out myself and I think it came out okay - could have been better though, but it's all good.

Again, remember the hair styles in this series can be done in a matter of 2 minutes or less!

Have a lovely weekend everyone. I know there's a holiday on Monday, which happens to be my birthday as well.

Also, don't forget to log on to African Naturalistas Instagram this Sunday, as I will be doing a takeover and showing you my wash day with our products!

Easy Natural Hair Styles for 4C Hair - Part 1

Last weekend I filmed a video showing some of my easy, go-to natural hairstyles, but for the benefit of African Naturalistas, I'll break it down into short snippets that I'll share over the next 6 weeks. My first hairstyle was a simple braid out, turned into a parted afro.

Check back next week for Style 2,which was easy to transition to from this style.

Have a nice weekend!

HIGH BUN - Natural Hair Style Tutorial

I like BIG BUNS and I cannot lie! Actually, that's not really true. I prefer the smaller, simple, classic buns, but for today's tutorial I decided to try the large, high buns that make you look like you're carrying a house on your head :p

Check out the video below for the tutorial. If you don't have much data, then check the pictorial from Nappily Nigerian Girl. And finally, my results at the end :)

TWISTED KNOTS Natural Hair Style

Earlier this week, I came across this very simple but elegant hairstyle on Youtube by Naturally Temi. I've decided that when I share videos on various hairstyles, it would only make sense for me to include my own attempts at recreating them. This was a very easy natural hair style to try and you can see my results at the bottom!

I think it's a cute hairstyle, and a nice variation of the bun (I've shared about natural hair buns before here, here and here), and it's easily a style I could wear for a few days, provided I keep the style wrapped up at night.

What do you think of the style, and my attempt?

Have a great Easter Weekend! God bless.

What your go-to natural hairstyle say about you

Hello Naturalistas,

How are you all doing today? I hope you had a fabulous February?
What is your default go-to natural hair style? Today, we would be looking at what that go-to hairstyle says about you.

Disclaimer: This article is just for fun and shouldn't be taken too seriously before some people will come for my kinks.

Pineapple Bun: You are one lazy naturalista. You would prefer convenience to style, and that is exactly what this hairstyle offers you. You are most likely an employee that is on-the go and doesn't also want to spend time styling your hair every morning but let us be frank, it's the laziness that makes you opt for this style.

Low Bun: You are a conservative person who also doesn't have alot of time to style hair but yours is not out of laziness because you take your time to lay all your edges. You also like to be safe and won't easily try new things, you love your comfort zone.

Twists: You are an extremely patient person who is very hardworking and has little or no time to style your hair everyday. You can also be very uptight and too serious and won't agree to be adventurous with your hair. Yes! You are an entrepreneur.

Low Cut: You are daring and a risk taker. You are also an attention seeker, I mean why else will you shave all your hair? But really who are we kidding? It could just be the good old laziness.

Stylish Up-do: You are classy and high maintenance. You also have plenty money and most likely a celebrity, how else will you explain stylish up-dos that only hairstylist make as your go-to style?

Wash and go: Haha! Who are we kidding? Who's go-to hairstyle is a wash and go? in this part of the world? Let's just move on.

Afro: Fierce! Va va voom! Your are carefree and definitely love making a statement with your hair. You are not a play-it-safe kinda person you are more look-at-me-I-am-in-the-bulding kinda person. This is assuming your Afro is a real one and not the struggle-nigerian-texture afro.

What is your go-to natural hairstyle? Does any of this describe you?

5 romantic Natural Hairstyles for your valentine date

Hello Naturalistas,

Who is excited about February? I am excited because it's the month of Love but too many things are happening in this country for us to be focused on Love at the moment but next week is Valentine's day and the least we can do is take out time to forget all the mayhem and spend with the one you love.

Here are 5 Romantic Hairstyles you can do for the special date.

Try out this Faux Bun in 2 ways  (Click the links for instructions)

                                                                           Faux Bun

Loose chunky twist after straightening it

Half Updo with Clip-ins

Halo Bun (I made up the name myself)

What you need:

  • Bobby Pins
  • Head band
How to:
  • Section a small portion of your hair giving a U shape
  • Pull the rest of the hair with the headband into a pineapple bun
  • Tuck in the rest of the pineapple with bobby pins
  • The U shaped section you have, Divide it into 2 and do a chunky twist. (As you can see mine couldn't manage to get chunky)
  • Do a crisscross with the 2 twists. Pin the left twist under the right one and the right one under the left one. It gives it the halo shape

Halo

Are you ready for valentine? Which style do you think is the most romantic?

Natural Hair Bun - Different Ways!

I'm all about the LOW natural hair bun these days. I had been thinking about putting my hair in that style for a while, and after I saw Michelle Obama's low bun at the recent Presidential Inauguration, I knew that I was definitely doing mine. I've posted a video and tutorial here on how I achieve a natural hair bun, so you can check it out if you want to do the same.

Anyways, one thing I like about bunning your hair is that you can put the bun in different positions.

To a Low Bun like this...

I like that buns are so versatile, and are instantly classic and chic. What style of bun is your favorite?

Cute Natural Hairstyle for Holiday Events

December - the month of parties, weddings and all kinds of celebrations is almost over. A lot of people have been wearing protective styles - braids, crochet braids, wigs, etc. But for those of us who have our hair out, I thought this pretty simple hairstyle would work for some of your outings. Enjoy!

Transitioning Corner: Protective styling

Hello Transitioners,

How are you all doing? Kinks and all? Finally, in my series I would be talking about one of my favourite things to do; Protective style. I love having various options of what to add to my hair to 'protect' it.

Bantu Knot Out.

My go-to protective styles are; Bantu Knot and knot out, yarn locs, yarn braids, turbans, braids. The reason these are my go-to styles is because I still have the flexibility to take care of my new growth by keeping it moisturised. We're all about healthy hair. I make sure to spray my hair everyday while it is in a protective style and deep condition after I take it down.

Turban Styles:

Yarn Locks: This I take down after 6 weeks regularly

Crochet Braids: This I take down after 4 weeks

Yarn Braids: This is what I currently have on and the maximum I can keep the hair for is 6 weeks.

Challenges: The challenges I have with protective styling are;

1. Not having option of styles to do with my own hair.
2. White flakes that you find only on the edges of your hair.

If you have suggestions for me, please, let me know. Now, over to you.

What are your go-to protective styles? How long do you keep the hair and how do you take care of your hair when it's in these styles?

Natural Hair Style - LOOSE TWISTS

About a month or two ago, while perusing Instagram, I came across this hairstyle - Loose Twists and I fell in love!!! I liked that it seemed to be a quicker and easier alternative to regular twists. Additionally whenever I twist my natural hair, I don't typically get a lot of volume, but with loose twists, the style makes my hair look fuller. I watched several tutorials online, which I will post below and I got to twisting! It took a couple of hours, but I've been enjoying the hairstyle.

My only worry is that my hair might get matted up and start to loc - it usually does that when I leave my natural hair in a protective twist style.

For maintenance, I just use my spray bottle or put leave-in conditioner directly on my hair. I also like that it's very easy to oil my scalp when needed. At night, I just put it in a bun or pineapple and tie my hair down with a scarf.

This week I've actually had the hair in a modified version of the style Beenzu posted last week. It definitely has kept my hand-in-hair syndrome away.

Have you ever done loose twists? If not, would you like to try them some day?

Vixen Crochet Braids on my Natural Hair

Like I mentioned in this post a few weeks ago, vixen crochet braids are one of the newer natural hairstyles. Of course, it's not limited or exclusive to natural hair - but quite a number of naturalistas are doing the hair style. I also said I would share photos of mine. Since I don't know how to cornrow, my mum did those for me. In retrospect, I would have asked that they be smaller or in the inverted/didi style, so that they lay flat(ter).

I used this Senegalese Twist Braid by Femi collection because it was soft and mimics natural hair patterns.

In order to sleep and still protect my edges and other parts of my hair that were left out, this was how I tied my scarf.

I typically twist or flat twist my leave-outs and edges for some stretch.

When I unravel them, they kinda blend with the extensions.

I've worn the hair in mostly the 2 styles below, although I know they can be worn in multiple ways as shown in the videos from my original post.

I've had them in for 2 or 3 weeks now, and I plan to keep them in another week or two. But I also plan to blow-dry the extensions as well. If I can do more hairstyles, I will definitely share those photos.

What do you think?
