How to avoid being a Product Junkie?

When you're a natural chica, believe me this is a phase you need to go through.
It's like an experiment. You just have to try everything that works. Some get lucky and don't go farther. They just click with THE ONE and then they become the happiest natural Chics ever!!
Well, I found mine..., and SO SHOULD YOU.
Find out what works for you...

Once you have passed this stage, then you've conquered the beginning of your problems.
Problems like this usually take time to overcome but start by knowing the kind of problem your hair has..
Meaning

1. Identify the issues your hair actually has. of it is dry scalp, itchy scalp, breakage, split ends and so forth

2. Get Products that relate to that particular problem one by one and if you happen to be battling all at once, please take them one after each other.
e.g if your major hair problem is dryness and itching, get a conditioner like Herbal essence Hello Hydration that will help to increase and preserve moisture in your hair.

Helpful Hint: this gives you a wonderful feel after you've washed out the mayonnaise from your hair.

As for me, I don't do the whole milk, egg, honey mixture etc due to time and economic factor but now that my hair Mayo contains wheat germ oil which is  very good for the hair, I just apply, cover with a shower cap and tie up with a turban. That way, my body heat and external heat are joining me in the war against hard and stubborn natural hair.

After two hours or more, your hair is a wonderful smelling miracle. Hair mayonnaise gives your hair that fluffy feel and nice smell that makes you feel hair happy.
hereafter, apply the conditioner and leave it in for like an hour.
When you're busy on weekdays, try engaging yourself more on this kinda adventure on weekends or Sundays when you can tie your hair to church and nobody knows what's underneath..#wink**

3. Deal with each problem one at a time and just make sure you spray with water always in whatever creative style you come up with.
That's the real moisture.

To be continued next week
Ciao!

  1. Lovely post, though when I spray my hair with water, it just shrinks and the curls tighten.

    1. thanks Myne
yeah, i use to have that issue one time like that and thats when i observed that after spraying with water, take a little amount of jojoba oil to seal in the moisture, moisturize and adds shine to your hair. then at night, you sleep with a satin bonnet on. Yes your hair would shrink but it wont tighten at all
although i would love to ask what you add to your hair to get curls. this is very important and it could also be the reason for your tight curls

  2. So true. But it's easy to get overwhelmed! It's only been in the past year or two, that I've tried to consciously look for products that my hair NEEDS. For instance, I started looking for products that would combat itchy scalp, dandruff and stuff that would make my grow faster. Now I need to find somn for my edges...

    Nice post.

    1. thanks dear!
Yes you're right Berry, its so easy to get overwhelmed but when you need to be economic and time conscious, you'll have to be more prudent in selection.
For your edges, i'll advise you to try the castor oil mix for your edges and wait to see the terrific changes gradually.
remember its a gradual process so you'll have to be patient
and stress them less. do not manipulate that part of your hair too much or comb too hard. instead just use a soft hairbrush or an old toothbrush to brush your edges and they'll come to

    1. Hi Dear, sorry about your issue. I was in the same exact situation as you sometime back, so I can feel your pain. Mayonnaise is used as a protein conditioner, which is good because many people have issues with protein balance on their hair. However, for some people, the problem is moisture balance, which I suspect is what you are facing. Please, can you pause on the protein/mayo deep conditioning for a while and go the way of moisture deep conditioning. You can prepare a mix of coconut oil, coconut milk, honey, aloe vera gel, and avocado. Your issue should be able to sort itself out after you try this. Please, see the following statements below to guide you. It is not just about deep conditioning for deep conditioning sake.

(When Wet or Dry) Stretches slightly and returns to its original length without breaking, you are balanced! Stick with maintaining!
(When Wet or Dry) Stretches a little more than normal then breaks, you need more protein in your regimen.
(When Wet or Dry)Stretches, stretches, stretches with no significant breakage yet, add a bit more protein to your regimen.
(Wet)- Feels weak, gummy, mushy, or limp, you need to add more protein to your regimen.
(Wet or Dry) Experiences very little to no stretching, and simply snaps or breaks, you need to increase the moisture in your regimen.
(Dry) Feels rough, tough, hard, dry, tangly, brittle, or any combination of those, you need more moisture in your regimen.
Unsure? Err on the side of caution and give your hair more moisture. So now that you have figured out what type of hair breakage you have, what should you do?

    1. If your scalp is dry and itching, you probably don't have a good moisture balance. Please, moisturise your hair regularly to up the moisture level.

    3. Loool. Moisture means water. Just take a mixture of water and olive oil and spray your hair. That's moisture.
