My Natural Hairdrobe (Junks and Treasures) - 2

Continued from the previous post. If you missed it, click this link to read it. I believe it will be very useful for you.

Hairdrobe 1

O- Castille soap + ACV: This is the squeezy bottle I put a mixture of Castille soap and ACV when I want to wash my hair. I add the ACV because Castille soap has a high PH so it is advisable to use the ACV to reduce it.

P- Quality Street Chocolate Accessories: Yes, I know you have been wondering if chocolates are used to condition the hair also. Well, sorry, it’s just the container I use to pack some of my hair accessories, mostly bows ribbons and flower. I have accessories in like five different containers, these are just two of them.

Q – Voluminising Leave-In conditioner: Got this from Boots. I really am not a leave-in conditioner person but I want to start being one. Please, who will teach me how to be one and tell me what exactly I am to use it for? I am serious o, lol

R- Aloe Vera Gel: By now, you will know that I use this to do my twists. It is the first on my scale of preference of gels.

S- Castor Oil: This is a cold extract castor oil, which is also ingested by people with digestion issues. I dilute it with olive oil and apply it on my hair and edges every morning. I also use it to make hair products.

T- Setting Lotion: I got this from superdrugs . After reading Natmane’s post about her braid out and how she used setting lotion, I went ahead to get myself two of this. I tried it and it did not come out as lovely as hers at all. In fact, it was a mess. So I am stuck with it, trying to know what exactly to use it for. Please advise if you can, what exactly can a natural hair carrier use a setting lotion for?

U- Shea Butter (Mango Flavour): It is raw shea butter mix with a little mango oil. I am sure some of you did not know that mango had oil till this moment. I got this from the last Natural Hair meet up from Sherese Ijewere but haven’t used it since then. I plan on using it once I finish the shea butter in my hairdrobe.

Hairdrobe 2

A- Olive Oil: A naturalista’s hairdrobe without olive oil is a blah blah blah, in my own opinion. I can’t even begin to name all the things I use olive oil for. Prepoo, daily conditioning, making products, etc.

B- Africa Naturalista Hair Butter: This is my own hair butter, not just a remnant this time. I use it every morning to seal in moisture in my hair.

C- Honey: I use this as one of the ingredients for my prepoo, which I do every 2 weeks. For more details on prepooing, click here

D – Henna Blocks: I have never used henna before but have heard so many wonderful stories about this stuff. So I bought these blocks which I will be dissolving into paste, block by block whenever I need it. This is supposed to give the black effect. I got this for £7.75 so it better be worth it. I guess I will be talking more to Natural Nigerian about it.

E – Accessories: Another box of accessories, mainly hair bands, this time.

F- Training head: I am sure you all know this by now. I talked about it in this post. She is still unused. Please, pray for me so that I can dig my hands into her scalp and get my hands dirty.

G- Shower Cap: I use to to cover my head and trap heat in my hair during my prepoo sessions.

H- ACV: Apple Cider Vinegar, which I use to get rid of build ups

I – Shea Butter: This is another product I feel that every naturalista should possess. I use it to make hair products, seal in moisture on my hair and also use for prepooing.

J- Mayonnaise: I am sure you know my hair isn’t bread. I use this as one of the prepooing ingredients. Or is the anything else that mayonnaise can be used for, when it comes to natural hair?

Wow, I have finally come to the end of the hairdrobe post. I don’t know if there are typos, but if there are, please, forgive me.

I hope this has been very useful for you. Please, try to avoid junks in your hairdrobe. Junks are stuffs you don’t really need for your hair, won’t use and will eventually just lie there, useless. Before getting anything, find out if you really need it first.

Have a great week

P.S: I am serious about the leave-in conditioner and setting lotion questions I asked. Please, help answer if you have suggeestions

  4. Thanks for sharing. You really took your time to outline things.

Good one with the Castille and ACV. You can even dilute with Aloe Vera Gel to further reduce the pH and make it a more moisturizing "shampoo".

Henna Blocks? Haven't seen those before. Do they contain Indigo? Because to make your hair darker, they are going to have to contain that.

Your Leave-In can be used as part of your three step moisturizing process. Spritz with water, use a leave-in conditioner and then seal with a butter or oil. Sometimes, I knock off the water and do just the last 2 steps. My rationale is that conditioner contains water so I can still gain moisture.

Setting Lotion is used as Nat Mane described. As far as I know, they will give you a strong hold. C'est tout.

    1. I learnt the PH thing from you oo. Thanks

I was also surprised when I saw the blocks. They were moulded with some oils. I hope indigo isnt bad for the hair o.

Hmm, thanks for answering my question. I will try using the leave-in conditioner alone, without water and see how my hair turns out.

  5. No, Indigo isn't bad for the hair. It is used for covering up gray hair. The Henna deposits red color on your hair and the indigo deposits black. It will make your hair look jet black.

Just know that using this treatment over a period of time has been known to loosen curl pattern. This means that after sustained use, your hair should be less curly and a little straighter.

  6. Roller sets! I have used lotta body setting lotion, setting foams, infusium leave in, gels to roller set my natural hair. They all worked, but i can't remember which worked the best, except the gel took the longest to dry. I would probably use setting lotion again in the future to roller set.

  9. Can I use home-made setting lotion and leave-in conditioner to style my hair? And I'm wondering which I should use first :s
Great piece by the way :) you sure do have a lot of stuff in your Hairdrobe..lol..

    1. Firstly, is your hair natural? Secondly, does the setting lotion have alcohol? You have to be sure that the ingredients won't dry out your hair, if its natural, so I can't really say for now sha.

      Thanks for dropping by

  11. You can use the leave in while twisting your hair and then seal in with olive oil.
you can also use it on your dry tips after braiding or weaving.
On wash days, you can use it on damp hair and then seal in with your preferred light oil. It's great when you have no time to mix your own DIY leave in like when you travel.
My best leave in so far is Angelfish Leave in conditioning spray by angelfishsoho but I haven't been able to get it again. So, I use diluted condish now.

  12. oh and the setting lotion, I've never found use for it. I bought lotta body setting lotion hoping it will make my twistouts last longer. it ended up being crunchy and sticky. I gave that away to a salon and then in a fit of junkism bought Motions light hold working spritz because it promised to give light hold (for my twist outs and flexi rollersets ) and humidity resistant (for my flatironed hair)....a product fail for me...my flatironed hair poofed up as soon as the product hit it and it makes my twistouts feel too crunchy but has no stickiness tho.
