GET RID OF DRY SCALP IN 4 EASY STEPS

GET RID OF DRY SCALP IN 4 EASY STEPS

Have you had a persistently itchy scalp, sometimes accompanied by hair loss, flaking and soreness? This could be a result of a dry scalp. Dry scalp is caused by, well, a lack of moisture in the skin. For people who have dry skin, they can relate to the fact that when they do not moisturize properly, their skin can get really itchy and uncomfortable. This dryness causes the scalp to become irritated and flakes off. Dry scalp can also be caused by changes in weather (especially from cold to hot) and the use of harsh hair products. Don’t fret, the treatment of dry scalp is easier than you think. Follow these 4 easy steps and say bye to dry scalp.

DRY SCALP!!!

A lot of us confuse dry scalp for dandruff, while dandruff is caused by too much oil, dry scalp is caused by product build up, cold weather, using poor quality shampoo which strips the scalp of its natural oils and sometimes our diet.

 Symptoms of dry scalp
- itching
- whitish flakes that shed easily.

How to treat dry scalp
- apple cider vinegar rinse : doing this every other week would help restore  ph balance and help clarify build up.
- oil massage : massaging the scalp with  natural oils like extra olive virgin oil, jojoba oil and coconut oil is also a remedy for dry scalp.
- Natural hair mask : pampering your scalp often with healthy hair masks like yogurt hair masks can help hydrate and fight dry scalp.
- diet : changing your diet plan and eating healthy can change the condition of your scalp and hair for good.
- aloe Vera gel : aloe Vera gel is a natural soothing balm that can help with the itching and can also feed the scalp.

I hope you find this useful and I really hope you learnt a thing or two. Have a great week!

Cradle Cap on Baby's Scalp; What Causes It and How to Treat it

How to Treat Baby Cradle Cap and Dry Hair
Lil Sis; hours old
Today, I got a question from a mother of a newborn asking how to treat her newborn baby's dry scalp. My first question to her was if the scalp was flaking. She responded that it was. This assured me that it was cradle cap.

WHAT IS CRADLE CAP?
Cradle cap, also known as infantile seborrheic dermatitis, is an harmless scalp condition which causes are unknown. It is said that it occurs from the hormones produced by the mother at the end of her pregnancy that causes the baby's scalp to over produce oil-producing (seborrheic) glands.

HOW TO TREAT CRADLE CAP
Step 1: Cradle baby's head on your hands

Step 2: Pour warm water on the head and a pea size amount of mild shampoo

Step 3: Massage in circular motion

Step 4: Rinse

Step 5: Apply olive oil on the hair making sure not to use too much

Step 6: Massage in circular motion

Step 7: You can use a fine tooth comb or baby brush to lightly lift the flakes from the cradle cap

You can also apply olive oil for 10 to 15 mins before you shampoo.

Stay beautiful! 💖

Reasons why you might be having dry scalp

Hi Naturalistas,
Hope you are all doing good?

Today, I would be talking about dry scalp. I have a dry scalp and now it's under control as I have been taking care of it. I have come to realise that there is a difference between dry scalp and dandruff.

However, here are reasons why you might be experiencing a dry scalp

1. You do not drink enough water.
I was really bad at this. I never used to drink water for a whole day sometimes until I realised how important it was. Our body needs water to strive. It can't produce water on its own. When we don't drink enough water, our body reacts to it, it could lead to  breakouts like pimples, dehydration, and off course dry scalp. Our hair, skin and nails suffer when we don't drink enough water. Depending on how the body intends to react. So drink up. At least 2litres a day for a start.
2. You do not have a good hair care routine. You should know when your hair would need a wash and how long you should be on a protective style.  You should know whether you have to shampoo or co-wash twice or more in a week to keep the dry scalp off. As for me, I had to wash and condition my hair every two weeks. I can't carry a protective style for more than 2weeks. Just find what works for you.
3. You rarely moisturise your scalp. Applying moisture to your scalp is very important. You should always pay attention to your scalp. When you feel your scalp is a bit flaky, you need to moisturise. Whether a mix of water and a leave-in conditioner or any moisturising mix of your choice. If it doesn't work, then you need to know it's time for co-washing.
4. You don't have a balance diet.
Most times we spend much time buying so much products to care for our hair and not caring more about what we take inside our body that would overall health and help with our hair as well. It's more about what we eat and drink. And not about the products you use sometimes. So start with your diet. I remember eating really healthy and working out sometime in 2014. My hair grew faster and I didn't experience dry scalp. I hope I can do it all over

So that's it.

What other reasons do you think could cause a dry scalp? Do you think dandruff is different from dry scalp too?

P.s: if you are doing everything right and still experience dry scalp, see a hair specialist.
