Who rocked the style best? TWA

Wow, it's been a while since we had this column. I hope you have missed it, lol.

This edition, we are featuring a very common style, that I almost cannot believe that it has not been featured on any of our previous "who rocked it" column. Almost everyone who has gone from relaxed hair to natural hair went through this stage. It is the Teeny Weeny Afro.

While this is just a transition phase for many of us, some of people decide to permanently remain here and glam it up, while some rock it for a very long time, and then move on to the next phase.

As usual, we have featured six celebrities who currently or have rocked TWA to the fullest in the past. Who would you say rocked their TWA best? Remember you can only pick one. We would also like to know the reason for your pick. You can click the picture to enlarge it, in case you want to see the intricate details of the hair styles.

So who rocked this style best?

Is Long Natural Hair More Beautiful?

While scrolling on Instagram the other day, I came across a post by Aisha (who we featured as a Natural Hair Bride). She wrote about how she got quite a bit of negativity when she cut her hair. If you're not familiar with her, this is what her hair used to look like.

And this is what is looks like now.

She actually wrote a blog post about it, and how some people actually unfollowed her because her hair was now a tapered TWA. First of all, this is not the first time she has cut her hair, so I'm not sure why people responded in that manner. Additionally, she explained why she cut her hair - due to postpartum shedding. However, I don't think it's anybody's "business" as to what you decide to do with your hair and why.

I remember once reading a recap of a natural hair event in Lagos, and in the comments, someone said something in regards to Felicia Leatherwood (who I've written about here and here). The comment was something to the effect of, "What can anybody possibly learn about natural hair from someone who has low cut?"

Even when you look online, those with long natural hair generally have more followers than people with shorter natural hair. And that's funny because most of the comments you see are "How I wish I had long hair like yours." or "When will my hair reach that length?" So if your hair is still in the short or medium stage, why are you seemingly shunning people with the same length of hair, in favor of someone with long hair that takes more work and care to handle? Could it be that subconsciously we don't think shorter hair is as beautiful as long hair?

What do you think?

Finghair Tips Thursday: Trivia

Funny Natural Hair Tutorial

BUAHAHAHAHAHAHA! My cousin sent me this video last week and it's just too funny. HighDefinition Bazala is an African Vlogger and she posts funny videos of makeup tutorials. This time it's a Natural Hair tutorial and she shows us "How to Tie a Ponytail, Bun  or Lephondo" (not sure what Lephondo means)

Lupita for Vogue Magazine

I had a different post for today, but I'm rescheduling it to bring you the gorgeousness that is Lupita Nyong'o! Most people in the world would recognize her from her taking over Hollywood after her Oscar-winning appearance in the critically-acclaimed film, "12 Years A Slave." She took the fashion world by storm and has been a media darling for the past couple of years. She has a few movies out soon, and bought the movie rights for Chimamanda Adichie's book, 'Americanah,' so we have a lot more to watch out for from this AFRICAN NATURALISTA!

Her second Vogue Magazine cover came out this week and everyone, including me, is in a frenzy over the beautiful photos and I thought I should share some of my favorites here. Let's bask in the knowledge that natural hair isn't something to be ashamed of. She rocks her TWA with style and finesse, and I think that should inspire anyone who's having some difficulties as a new natural.

Enjoy the photos all from Vogue.com!

I can't decide which photo is my favorite, but it's between the one in the blue dress, the one where she's sitting barefoot, and this black and white one. Which one's your favorite?

Have a nice weekend :)
