DIY LOUNGE - NATURALISTA GLOSSARY





I read a lot of blogs, articles and watched lots of videos while preparing to go natural. The biggest problem I had with these blogs and YouTube channels was trying to figure out some of the terms and abbreviations being used. It got to a point i started giving them full meanings in my head but sometimes, I simply just move on to the next!
  During the cause of my short journey, I have learnt a few of them, am still learning though but I thought I should share the little have learnt. Feel free to add yours in the comment section..

ACV 
                  Apple Cider Vinegar
AFRO
                  A mass of kinky and curly hair
BAA
                  Big A** Afro
BRAID OUT 
                  The process of braiding your hair in a damp  state and taking it down once it dries, giving       you more defined curls.
BC
                 Big Chop 
CLARIFY
                Getting rid of product build ups in your hair
CO WASH
                 Washing  your hair with only conditioner
DC
                 Deep condition
DIY 
                 Do it yourself
DT
                 Deep Treatment 
DUSTING
                The process of trimming your ends.
EO
                Essential oil
EVCO
                Extra virgin coconut oil
EVOO
                Extra virgin olive oil
FLUFF
                Finger combing your hair to give it volume
HENNA
                A plant used for dyeing 
HG
                Holy grail ( a tested and trusted product)
HIH
                Hand in hair syndrome 
JBCO
                Jamaican black castor oil
LCO
                Leave in conditioner, cream and oil
LOC 
                Leave in, oil, cream
NO POO
                Using something else other than shampoo to wash your hair
PJ
                Product junkie ( someone that likes collecting hair products )
PRE CO
                Any ritual you do to your hair before conditioning 
PRE POO
                Any ritual you do to your before shampooing
PROTECTIVE STYLE 
               An hair style that keeps your ends tucked away and protected
REGIMEN
               Daily,weekly, monthly hair routine
SEALING
               Applying any hair butter of your choice after moisturizing, to keep the moisture 
SHRINKAGE
               When your big Afro reverts to small Afro
TRANSITIONING
               Growing out your natural hair and leaving the chemically processed ones to shed
TWA
                Teeny Weeny Afro
WASH AND GO
                When you wash your hair, style and leave the house like that, allowing air to dry it..
WET AND GO
                Spraying your hair with water in order to style or define your curls

    3. Some I've heard.
      WO-water only washing.
      OR-oil rinse,using oil on wet hair to help add shine and aid in detangling.
      TWIST OUT-leaving damp hair in twists to dry for definition.
      CASSIA-a plant dye similar to genna,but without the color residue.
      INDIGO-a plant dye used in conjunction with henna to give hair different color shades.
      INVERSION-a method used to aid hair growth by keeping the head in any upside down motion with the aid of an oil massage on the head.Does not work for everyone.
      PROTEIN LAYERING-adding extra protein to the ends of the hair to strengthen the hair.
      BS-a no shampoo method of washing the hair with baking soda.
      BBB-boar bristle brush.
      S&D-search and destroy.A method of getting rid of split ends by searching AND destroying them.lol
      That's all i can think of right now so,
      HHG-happy hair growing!

    MHM maximum hydration method
    Both are used for curl definition on natural type 4c hair. Its said to be effective but I haven't tried any of them though.

  4. So where to we start from, SL, APL, BSL for shoulder length, armpit length, and bra strap length. BC for big chop, PS for protective styling, etc. If we start, we won't finish o. Well done.

  6. Green House Effect : applying natural oils to the hair and covering the hair overnight with a cap for moisture.

  8. This is sooo helpful! I recall when I began my hair journey I use to screw up my face like I was chewing bitter leaf when I came hear some of these terms lool. Now I feel like I am speaking a secrete language when I use words like pre poo :D
