Mane matters Deborah Tom-pius

Hello Naturalistas,

We've been getting a lot of mane matters request lately and this is one of our readers. Do enjoy!

AN: Can you tell us who you are and what you do?

I'm Tom-Pius Deborah, currently studying Elect/Elect Engineering.

Relaxed Hair

AN: What's your thoughts about natural hair?

I think that natural hair is not as bad/tough as people paint it to be, as long as you know how to take care of it.

AN: Why did you decide to go natural?

Well, I had very beautiful hair as a child, long, dark and full. Upon relaxing in my final year in secondary school, it was still okay. But 2yrs ago, for no reason, it began to break off, taking it halfway, and I felt "mehn I can't deal anymore".
Bantu knot out with transitioning hair

AN: Did you do a BC or you transitioned?

I transitioned for 6months and did the big chop in April 2014.

AN: Any fears about the BC?

Yes and no. I was chopping off my used-to-be-long hair but then it was almost as good as nothing.
Braid out

AN: What has your experience been?

It's been wonderful. I'm loving every strand of natural hair.

AN: What was/is your biggest fear about going Natural?

I have no fear about it.
The BC

AN: Do you think you are in it for the long haul or is it just a phase?

I'm in it all the way.

AN: Do you have any hair regimen you stick to?

I just co-wash weekly, shampoo and deep-condition monthly, pour water on my hair and apply shea butter daily. Still learning though.

AN: Whats your go-to protective style?

Definitely braids and weaves.
Protective style

AN: There are people that definitely have negative comments about you hair, how do you deal with that?

No negative comments so far, apart from some people that were not happy I cut off my hair. They're coming to love it anyway.

AN: Whats your must have product and accessory?

Shea butter and my scarfs.
Straw curls

AN: Whats you advice to anyone planning to ditch relaxers?

As long as you know what you're getting into, go right ahead dear.
Thank you for your time.

  1. I love her bc look.
I'd have loved to see more pictures of her natural hair though. Generally, I noticed mane matters pictures are scanty?

Nice. I remember when she was transitioning. Good to see her on track.

  3. The with transitioning is that after the B.C, there is still some straight ends that don't seem to go away no matter how many times I trim it. It's a pain. It doesn't make the curls pop/show when you've a TWA going on *sign*

Love her BC, look soo much younger :D
