Natural hairspiration

Hi ladies.
One of the commonest misconceptions is that natural hair does not grow.Well, i think that has been proved wrong. I'm gonna be sharing some pictures of ladies that have been consistent enough to grow their kinks out.

Enjoy!

It should be noted that these are as a result of healthy hair care practices and maximum length retention.

Till next time.

Strut your stuff and stay beautiful.

  1. I appreciate this post however it is very clear that the growth rate and terminal length of any hair has to do with genes, which cannot be changed. These photos are misleading in the sense that they are all examples of people with relatively fast hair growth rate.

    1. I beg to differ. These photos are not misleading. How do you know they have fast growth rate? Do you know their family genes? What is your definition of fast growth rate? Is it because they are not Nigerians or what?

Even though genes play a role in length, what is most important is healthy hair care practices, and the willingness to consciously adopt practices that would help you retain length.

I personally, am from Nigeria. I have had my natural hair for 3 yrs, and it is currently longer than bra clasp length. I don't really do posts about my length on this blog because the purpose of this blog is to teach people how to care for their hair, not to show off my own hair. But now that this issue has come up, I might just do a post on that soon. If only to prove to you that long hair has to do with healthy hair practice, not just genes. Or will you say it is my genes too?

    2. hi, so when do we get to see you gorgeous, healthy locks. i need some ,otivation. and i completely agree with you. As long as you keep up with a healthy and continuous hair regimen, which includes once a week deep conditioning, daily LOC method, weekly clariyfying and conditioning, protective styles and sleeping with satin scarves, only then will our hair retain length. dont believe the nyths people!!

  2. the first picture and 2nd to last is o'naturals, she has a FB page for those interested in following her. Length retention also has to do with the characteristics of your hair. Thicker hair strands are stronger than fine ones and so they're able to withstand manipulation without breaking. This is why protective styling would be a good choice for those with fine hair who wants to see length. Since this is a blog dedicated to Africans, i guess we should be posting pictures by other Africans. Berry gave some examples of Africans on IG we should be following. I will also try my best to do a compilation this week. The "Mane matters" page on here also has some inspirational posts with women who have had good retention.
I for one have slow growth plus a not so good retention. I even blogged about it here. check it out!

  3. According to recent science studies genes doesn't necessarily determine your growth rate. Your DNA is a pattern and It changes with the environment and mind setups.

My hair can grow 1 inch in a month and on top of this, feels gorgeous and the curls show off respectively but with two conditions: Excellent diet on foods and drinks, No stress. Fail to combine the two and my hair doesn't even grow 1/2 of an inch in a month and it feels extremely dry and brakes of when I touch it. For me The health and Length of hair comes with what goes into my mouth and how much of it.

If African hair would't grow like other races or hair types, why on earth do we keep relaxing the roots every 6-8 weeks???

By the way am natural and Kenyan and I love my hair to bits.
Love her and she will love you back that's a Natural rule to live by.
