5 Kids Natural Hair Care Practices to Change in 2016

5 Kids Natural Hair Care Things to Change in 2016
By DiscoveringNatural

Using Heat

Heat is not necessary a bad thing, however, too much of a good thing can make it a bad thing. Always use a heat protectant when using heat. When the purpose of using heat is to stretch the hair, there are so many ways to stretch the hair when shrinkage occurs after washing your child's hair. Prolonged use of heat can overtime damage the hair cuticle and weaken it if care is not taken. Click here for ways to stretch without heat.

Tight Hairstyles

Protective styling saves time... and it is also very beautiful. However, it is important to do it with care. Avoid doing tight hairstyles; those styles that pull too much on the edges. Make sure to give "rest periods" between styles. When hair is pulled too much, it is possible for the child to get traction alopecia.

Irregular Moisturizing

Moisture is essential to natural hair. When your child's hair is not moisturized regularly, breakage will occur. There are so many different ways to moisturize your child's natural hair. How do you moisturize your child's natural hair, share in the comment area.

Combing While Dry

If you are still combing your child's hair while dry and noticing a lot of hair on the comb, this is not normal. Growing up, this seemed like a normal thing, but overtime, I have learnt that this is unnecessary breakage. Before combing your child's hair, if it is dry, spritz it lightly with some liquid and then proceed to combing. Always comb from ends of the hair to root.

Deep Conditioning

Have you been skipping Deep Conditioning your child's hair? Let's try to change that this year. Not only does deep conditioning natural hair provide much needed moisture, the moisture lasts for a while post wash day. There are many ways to deep condition, you can do it with heat or without heat. Try African Naturalistas'  Deep Conditioning Mayonnaise.

What are you going to change this year?

Sincerely yours,

  4. How can I tell if I need to trim my daughter's hair or if it just needs more moisture? It seems eternally dry and brittle - especially at the ends - and it tangles very easily. BTW, she is 5, and her hair is very fine, kinky with no real curl pattern. I also find that trying to comb her hair while wet is more difficult (tangles), especially when trying to wash it. How can I get her hair to start to grow back without breaking off?
