Diary of an Honest Naturalista: Week 125

I am not ashamed to say this, as it is who I am. I am not one of those people who say “I bought my shoes in Los Angeles, I bought my clothes at Dorothy Perkins.” The truth is that I have never left the shores of this country before. My closest contact with anything in the western world is Tonya, and the only tangible things that was specifically purchased for me outside Nigeria are a few things from Dimeji and my sister. Apart from that, I am a full born, bred, and buttered Nigerian child.

I decided that this can’t be my story anymore. My level has to change. I can’t be walking with people like Dimeji, Yemisi, and Dimeji’s mum, and my life should still be on this level. I need more exposure in my life, and I would only gain that by going on vacation in another country, so I can say that at least, I have stepped out of this country for once in my lifetime.

Of course, the most reasonable option is for me to be patient, and get married to a correct guy like Dimeji, and all those things can be arranged as a couple. But since that is not a certainty, I can’t put my hope in a guy who is not God. I have decided to take the bull by the horn, and apply for visa.

But there are some issues. The thing is…

I don’t know what country I want to go to. And this problem is tied to the next issue.

I don’t have close relatives or friends abroad. The only set of people I know… I have had no relationship with them in over 20 years. So therefore…

I have no one to give me an invitation letter. How will I apply for visa as a first time visitor, without an invitation letter? And also…

I have nowhere to stay. I definitely cannot live on the streets. I know I can stay in a hotel, but if you consider the fact that…

I don’t have money, then you can understand what I mean. I also know this means that…

I don’t have a reasonable statement of account to show them at the embassy. Falsifying documents is a no no. Who wants to be banned for 10 years when I can just as well be patient become rich, and allow God to upgrade me when the time is right.

Lastly, I have no idea how to maintain my natural hair in a foreign land.

I Dunno
Source
I am not ready to be homeless, penniless lady with no direction and unkempt natural hair in another man’s land. That is the definition of madness.

At this point, I don’t need a prophet to tell me that my time has not yet come to ‘change my levels.’

For now, I will be content in knowing that very soon… this will be history.

  5. Even if it's the easiest means, not every one fancies the idea of spending millions for naira on masters just to step outside of the country.
Tbh and imo, I'll advice you take it easy and travel within Africa first, there's so many things to see in Africa. At least some countries are visa free to Nigerians and pocket friendly.
See Ghana, Kenya, let's not forget south Africa it self.

    1. Vacation is cheaper than masters, if it is just for the sake of seeing outside the country for the first time.
