Adding colour to your hair can be really cute and wild! I mean, it gives our natural hair that pop and makes you appear fun...I particularly like natural hair with coloured tips, I don't know why it looks super cute to me and it's one of the reasons why I dyed my hair after my big chop.As amazing, popping, daring and cute coloured hair might make you look, it sure as its CONS... So before you dye that hair, here are few things you should know...
LESSON 1
Extra Attention : I think coloured hair can also be termed as processed hair ( correct me if am wrong), so it requires extra care! Deep condition more, moisturise often! In short, every of your hair care regime should be X2
LESSON 2
Protective Styling : Colouring your hair makes it prone to breakage and can also cause it to become brittle easily! Consider protective styling 85% of the time, as it will protect your ends from split ends and breakage..
LESSON 3
Go for moisture rich products, a dyed natural hair needs all the moisture she can get..
LESSON 4
Dyed hair is more delicate, make sure to comb and detangle gently..
LESSON 5
Use less heat! Again, because dyed hair is much more prone to damage.
LESSON 6
Leave in conditioners and Water should be your best friends because, dyed hair tend to dry out a lot..
LESSON 7
Make sure you go to a professional to get your hair colour treated, i wouldn't suggest a DIY ..
LESSON 8
Make sure to prepoo before every wash ( I recommend using coconut oil), this helps with the shine.
LESSON 9
Co-Wash often..
LESSON 10
Before you dye your hair, make sure your natural hair is super super healthy..
TIPS : if you are a lazy naturalista, I won't suggest you colour your hair because coloured hair needs a lot of commitment...
SUMMARY
coloured hair needs a lot of special care, attention and lots, lots and lots of MOISTURE!!
Enjoy rocking your coloured hair and remember to BREATHE! ITS JUST HAIR!!!

Very informative post. Seeing a professional hair colourist too is very important but these kind of people are scarce here in Nigeria. I DIYed with permanent dye 3 months back. Though it has faded to another colour, I'm still loving it and getting complements everyday with my bantu knot out styles. Hair really elevates natural hair styles. Constant moisture, deep conditioning and hot oil treatments are really key as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is selfish, but yes Berry by all means go right ahead,i need ta live vicariously through you.
ReplyDeleteI love coloured hair, but I've not yet mentally prepared myself for it.
