'I thought my hair would not grow' Mane Matters with Tomi

Hi Natural Beauties,
How's the week going? Let's meet Tomi

Can you tell us who you are and what you do?
My name is Tomi 'Molola Akande. I'm a Youth Corper and a lifestyle Blogger.

What are your thoughts about natural hair?
Natural hair is absolutely beautiful. It has a way of giving each person a unique afrocentric look. It's like wearing a uniform but still standing out.
When/why did you decide to go natural?
I love trying new things and when I saw people embracing their natural hair, I thought "Why not, let me give it a try" and I've not regretted it yet. I went natural in April 2014. It was a spur of the moment thing.  My friend and I just woke up and decided to pay the barber a visit. Lol

Did you do a BC or you transitioned?
I did a BC

What was the experience like?
It was exhilarating. The fact that I could pour water on my head anytime I want, made it worthwhile.
What was/is your biggest fear about going Natural?
My biggest fear was that my hair would stop growing. You know shrinkage has a way of making us think our hair isn't growing as fast as it should.
Do you have a regimen you stick to? What is it like?
Yes. The most important you can give your hair is moisture, so I moisturise morning and night. My spray bottle is never far from me. Every weekend, I wash and deep condition and I prepoo every other month. I try not to bombard my hair with a lot of treatments and products so it doesn't get confused.
What emotional struggles, if any, have you faced since going natural?
Hmm, that must be growing my edges. It's been tough getting them to grow at my pace and sometimes I feel discouraged but I shake it off and keep doing what needs to be done.
Do you think you are in it for the long haul or is it just a phase?
Someone asked me this recently and there was no doubt in my mind that I'm in this for the long haul. I mean, what else would I be doing?
There are people that definitely have negative comments about your hair, how do you deal with that?
One day I told a friend how much time and money goes into my hair and he told me it wasn't reflecting in my hair. I wanted to cry but then again I get more compliments than criticism so I just try to be a good sport about negative comments.
What's your must have product and accessory?
That would be my Creme of Nature Moisture and Shine Shampoo. It acts as a shampoo and conditioner for my hair. My hair is absolutely in love with it.
What is your go-to style?
Wash and go for the lazy days and twist-outs for most of the non-lazy days.
What advice do you have for anyone just going natural?
Natural hair is going to teach you patience. It is your baby, you have to nurture and pamper it. Don't try to make your hair into what it's not, instead, try to understand its likes and dislikes cos you'll get better results when you really understand your hair.

Where can we find you?
Thank you for your time
You are welcome

Don't you just love her hair?

    1. Oh there are lots of challenges. The major ones for me have to do with time and finance. About the products, you can visit African Naturalistas online store, you'd find lots of affordable products and they do home delivery. Thank you :)
