3 Helpful Ways of Washing your Child's Hair

By DiscoveringNatural

There are several ways to wash your child's natural hair. The technique you choose depends on the child and their ability to go through the process without being afraid and without tears.

Sink Wash
This method is best for a child that is afraid of getting water in their face. It provides great support and comfort to the child. All you have to do is lay the child on the counter and let their head droop into the sink area. Make sure to support the neck with a rolled up towel.

Bathtub Head to Ceiling Wash
This is one of the most famous way of washing children's hair. With this method, the child is sitting in the bathtub with their head tilted to the ceiling. This method keeps the water away from the child's face.

Head Leaning Forward

This technique can be done either in the bathtub or in the sink. This method is suggested for older children that do not have fear of letting water touch their face. With the sink method, the child stands on a supportive stool and leans forward into the sink. However, with the bathtub method, the child kneels down by the tub, leans forward with head tilted towards the tub. With either method, provide the child with a wash towel to wipe their face if water touches their hair.

  1. I wash my lil one hair using the bath tub head to ceiling method. This keeps the water away from her face.
But I noticed that her body itches all over before the end of the wash.
Is this normal or is she reacting to the hair products.
I was using Johnson shampoo of kids and currently l used black soap and still got the same result.

    1. It is possible that she could be reacting to something in the soap you are using. One thing you can try is to lather her body (not face) with her bathing soap, then wash her hair. Upon rinsing off the shampoo, rinse off her body too. See if that reduces the itchness

  2. I remember having itchy body while my hair was being washed as a child. The sensation of having my head wet and my naked body dry caused the itchies. Try wrapping her in a warm towel and giving her her favorite toy to hug and see if it helps.....

    2. If the head is not supported well, it can be quite uncomfortable. However, with proper padding using a towel, this works well for little children that are afraid of getting water in their eyes.
