Diary of an Honest Naturalista: Week 7

Yesterday was Beaaauuuuttiiifffulll! The emotions I feel right now is a complete opposite of how I felt last week. I feel so elated.

This is the first time ever I would go out on a date with my natural hair exposed. I was not really sure about how my date would accept my natural hair, but I wasn't ready to cover up my hair in weaves, wigs or extensions. Since I had no plans of putting these things on my hair in the nearest future, I thought it wiser to let anyone who might be interested in me see the real me, and how I would be looking most times. If the person stays, fine. If not, Sayonara.

So I went to meet a natural hair blogger who I had developed a good relationship with, and asked her to style my hair. At first, I wasn't too tripped about what she styled on my hair, but accepted it, knowing I couldn't do half the job she had done, and I definitely couldn't go to a regular stylist, who would just tear out my ends. It wasn't until I started getting compliments on my way back that I began to feel confident about the style I carried.

To cut the long story short, the natural hair style was one of the things that nailed the date for me. I mean, what man in his right mind would not think twice when strangers were passing great comments about my hair when we both walked side by side. This caused my date to cast many momentary glances at my hair, till he couldn't hold his questions back anymore.

I then took the next five minutes to tell him the very little I knew about natural hair, and even chipped in few statements about my struggles - texture, shrinkage, and co, so that if by tomorrow, he sees me looking like a lunatic, he would understand that my hair had just refused to be obedient. My date said this was definitely a first for him, and it might take him a while to get used to hanging out with a lady with hair like mine, since he was used to seeing women on extensions and weaves.

I wasn't upset about this statement. In fact, I took it as a positive sign, because it meant he probably had plans of hanging out with me again. Yea, sometimes we have to listen to what's not being said, as opposed to what's being said, lol.

I'm sure by now, you are all interested in knowing my date's name. Well, I guess I will reveal it, when it develops into something more concrete. So for now, let's just remain hopeful, and keep our fingers crossed.

See you all next week.
