When I first decided to try using a clay wash on my hair, Bentonite clay was my first choice. I loved the way it clumped my curls and gave my hair a clarifying feeling but not a stripping one. I however did not like that I had to wait after applying it to my hair for it to do its job.
My Mix
Another issue I had with it was the fact that it didn't rinse off my hair as quickly and sometimes I had to use a cowash cleansing conditioner to get rid of any other residue.
When I got introduced to Rhassoul clay, the first time, I mixed it the wrong way, with a thick conditioner. Let me just say, I had the worst experience ever!! My usual black hair was brown, like someone colored it!! I was so scared. Then, I tried a different way of mixing it using just Aloe Vrera Juice and oils. I was in LOVE!!! Unlike its counterpart, my hair didn't require any additional rinse, it was soft, curls were PoPping! and my hair totally loved it.
How I mixed it:
I haven't used Bentonite clay on my hair since I started using Rhassoul clay. I only use it as my facial masque. Click here to see how I use it
By the way, the clays can be used on kids hair, just make sure to not get it in their eyes. Click to see how I apply it to my youngest daughter's hair.
Have you ever used Rhassoul Clay or Bentonite Clay?

I just bought some Rhassoul clay and can't wait to use it!
ReplyDeleteThen again, I prefer Bentonite clay because it draws out toxins and negative charges . I use it from head-to-toe. Body wraps, face masks and whatnot. I also never have any issue rising out. Maybe it's as a result of different hair types.
That is a good point about different hair types. I haven't used it on my body, just my face and hair.
DeleteI used bentonite clay for the first time last week and my hair was soft with defined curls. i loved it. And yes you are right about it not rinsing off so quickly. I'd try rhassoul clay next.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you were able to experience bentonite clay for the first time. Make sure you come back and share your rhassoul clay experience.
DeleteLol @ mixing it the wrong way and afraid
ReplyDeleteFrom reviews I think I prefer rhassoul to bentonite
Awesome. What do you add to your clay when you mix it?
DeleteIt seems everyone is in love with rhassoul clay as there are mixed reviews about bentonite clay.
DeleteYes francisca there are mixed reviews about bentonite clay..
DeleteIt doesnt wash off easily and doesn't give that softening feel rhassoul does. One of my friends abandoned her bentonite clay after first use because of this.
DeleteI have a post with this exact title sitting in my draft. I'm waiting till I've used rhassoul clay more times but so far, I prefer rhassoul too. Lovely post

ReplyDeleteBerry Dakara Blog
Ahn ahn Berry. I was assuming you haven't used bentonite before. How did you conclude that Rhassoul is the winner? Lol
Deletetry amazon or a health store
DeleteI get mine from Amazon or my health store or online at Coils and Glory. Link in the video.
DeleteI have never used Rhassoul clay before, but I have used bentonite clay twice, so I have no personal basis for comparison.
ReplyDeleteI know that you will use Rhassoul clay some time in the future, you being a naturalista ;)
DeleteI have used bentonite clay, mixed with water and oils, it didnt do much for my hair, it was hard to rinse off also. After reading this post, i remembered i had some rhassoul clay,i mixed with water and coconut oil. I took down my three weeks old kinky twists and i applied the mix to my undetangled hair. OMG, rhassoul clay is the bomb. it so softened my hair i couldnt believe it. I left it on my hair for like 30 mins and put on my steaming cap. It was so easy to rinse off and my hair felt moisturised. Even palm oil never had this much softening effect on my hair.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you share my love for Rhassoul clay #TeamRhassoul LOL!
DeleteRunning off to get some Rhassoul clay for my hair. From the review here, it seems to be everyone favorite. Will give my hair treat soon.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing what you think.
Delete@DiscoveringNatural is this safe for use by pregnant women?
ReplyDeleteRhassoul clay is safe for pregnant women. Rhassoul is high in Silica, Magnesium, Iron, Calcium, Potassium and Sodium content. The originators of this clay were the Moroccans and a lot of their pregnant women liked using it on their hair and skin because of its high mineral content.
DeleteWill rhassoul clay color my natural grey hair? I have used bentonite with not color change
