Sometime in July, I took these pictures of a friend's child, just to make a point. The girl was about three years old at the time of this shot. I have even branded the picture, because it is a child, and the source can always be traced to me.
Anyway, see the pictures below.
You see. This child obviously has no hair on her head. What the stylist did was to pick any available strand that was lengthy enough to be fixed into the extensions. In my opinion, the whole thing looked a mess. I feel these kinds of practices are not good for the hair of our children. The health of the girl's hair is not so great, and the parents were allowing it to be worsened with this practice. What is to say that it is not even this that worsened the girl's condition.
Ten days later, as a joke, another friend uploaded this picture of her five month old baby's head (I couldn't bring myself to call it hair) on her DP. The joke sure worked cos it was really funny. But I still believe it is bad child hair practice.
You can see the lines along which the hair was picked, and put into extensions.
All I could say for these two scenarios was "Is it by force?"
If a child has slow hair growth, which is not uncommon, the hair should be allowed to rest, and in a few years, it will sort itself out. And if one suspects a disorder, please see a trichologist (Doctor of Hair and Scalp). This is better than stressing the child very few hair strands and forcing it into extensions. It would only make things worse.
N:B: Last week, my friend uploaded another picture of her baby, and she now has hair all over her head.

Yeesh! I hope you spoke to your friends about their children's hair!
ReplyDeleteYes i hope she did, its too bad! haba!
DeleteI tried o, but they said they think there is something wrong with the first girl in question. I just wasn't happy that they did that, when she should obviously be on low cut.
DeleteAs for the second child, her mum was just trying to make people laugh, so I didn't talk at all, but I felt the joke could cause a bit of damage on the hair.
Lol, the baby's pic is cute. as for the first, I don't even know what to say. I personally don't know why mothers of these days are forcing extensions on their kids hair. I never saw a kid my age with adult hairstyles during my time. I hope the mom discovers the NHC very soon.
ReplyDeleteIts sad. The first sight was really pathetic in real life.
DeleteI went to visit some people and the wife of the house was telling me about how stubborn her daughter's hair was. People encouraged her to relax the hair, and this little girl was only 5! That's the kind of hair advice that's common nowadays.
ReplyDeleteSad. I hope you advised against it.
DeleteThis is so shocking. It constitutes child abuse. Seeing that the kid is so young, the hair lost due to stress could affect her for the rest of her life. What's wrong with some of these moms. Its cruel. Disgusting!
ReplyDeleteYea, I think its cruel too. They should have just had the child on low cut.
