What To Expect In Your Natural Hair TWA Stage
Thursday, 6 February 2014
Hi ladies!
This week I'm going to be filling y'all in on some things you should have in mind on your TWA stage so you have at least an idea of what to expect and how to handle it.
1. The Shrinkage is real! You might leave home in the morning with a well defined twist-out for instance, Don't be surprised when by evening, it's become a shrunken 'fro. It comes with the territory and I think the earlier you embrace it the better.
2.Your hair is prone to constant dryness! You're gonna have to Moisturize every time. It's quite short so it's a tad difficult to retain moisture for a long period.Whatever method it is you're using whether it's the LOC, LCO or LOCO, just moisturise!
3. The need for gel or curl puddings here is paramount. I personally don't think it's convenient for anyone to twist or braid every night. Gels give hold for a longer time.
4. If length is one of your goals, you might want to ditch the comb. Finger detangling works wayyy better besides kinky hair isn't designed to be straight. As usual, you might end up having a shrunken style, so what's the point?
5. If you're like me and love stretched hair, braid-outs and bantu knot-outs should be your go-to styles. At least, you're guaranteed volume and definition. I realised that twist-outs work better on longer hair. Nonetheless, they also make an amazing protective style
.
6. I think it is also important to alternate between protective styles. Once in a while, install some box braids and just let your hair be. Remember low manipulation goes a long way.
As usual, hair grows at a gradual rate so please set realistic goals and work towards them.

Whoa!
ReplyDeleteReally educative. Am carrying a TWA and my go to styles are braids either with kinky braids or regular weaves.
Am planning on retaining length.

DeleteHi. I did a BC last August and since December, I know my hair is the right length for a TWA. The problem is I've been hiding it under weaves. My hair is core 4C and I have no clue how to even begin managing it. HELP Pls! And yeah, I'm losing my front hair. :(

1.) You need Castor oil for your front hair. We stock Castor oil in our AN store.
Delete2.) What's your regimen like?

ReplyDeletePls what is the best brand of gel for naturAl hair?
ReplyDeletejulietchinelougochukwu@yahoo.com
If you insist on using a gel, I recommend Eco styler. If you want a pudding, I recommend African Naturalistas twist and curl pudding. Before you choose, please, know what exactly you are trying to achieve with the product.
Deletethanks for the advice.

DeleteI'm sorry Ebun. Gel does not hold my hair, pudding does not hold my hair, even Edge control does not hold me hair. Nothing holds my hair, lol. The only thing Gel does for me is twist my hair, and I have the twist and curl pudding to do that, and not suffer from the giant shrinkage Gel will give me when I twist my hair.
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say? My hair is one of a kind, lol.
Ha!
DeleteIt's really one of a kind!
Me too. I initially thought I was doing something wrong.
DeleteLOL! Pele
DeleteHello... I want to know how the castor oil is applied to achieve front hair repair. I just trimmed my relaxed hair and have a weave, though I plan on BCing when I loosen the weave. But most of your abbreviations and terms are confusing. For instance, how does one achieve a twist-out, bantu knots? what are the examples of protective styles??
ReplyDeleteSorry for the long epistle, but i'll really appreciate a detailed reply. Thanks
To use castor oil on ur edges, dilute it with 2 part olive oil or coconut oil and use it on the edges.
DeleteTwist out - twist your hair with pudding or gel, and untwist when completely dry.
Bantu knot out- Knot your hair in sections, like you are tying a knot, and un-knot it when completely dry.
Search this blog for protective styles, and the truth is that youtube is your best friend when it comes to trying new styles
Dilute ke?
DeleteYes na. If you just slap castor oil on your hair, it won't spread like other oils cos it is too thick. And if you do that everyday, you will end up wasting it and causing serious build up on your hair. To use castor oil everyday, it is better you dilute it with a lighter carrier oil.
DeleteOh, okay.
