Hello Everyone!
I'm so honored to be part of the AN team. I hope we can rub minds together and correct the misconceptions of Kinky hair.
Today I'm gonna be talking on Transitioning. You know; the longer
1. #DearTranstioner, the BREAKAGE is real!!!! I think this should be the most daunting, A mean you're dealing with two textures, there's bound to be a clash somewhere. Anyways, hot oil treatments and black tea rinses should be at your beck and call.
2. #DearTransitionier, protective styling is your friend. Trust me, you don't wanna deal with styling two hair textures. Your best bet is to
3. #DearTransitionier, frequent deep conditioning helps A LOT. This will help strengthen and soften your new growth, relaxed hair and prevent
breakage.
4. #DearTransitionier, combing your hair after a while will become a hassle. You might not be able to run your comb through your hair as freely as you like. The new growth will prevent a smooth movement except on wash days. So please detangle gently from ends to root.
5. #DearTransitioner Growth is at a snail's pace. Do not expect to see your head filled with kinks overnight. It takes time and LOTS of patience.
6. #DearTransitioner, keep your hair moisturised with a water-based product and seal with natural oils.
Alright ladies there you have it. Transitioning isn't that hard.
What has been your biggest transitioning challenge?
Stay Beautiful
@eBunite
My biggest transitioning challenge has been dealing with two textures - Thank God for protective styling. I'm 8 months post relaxer and I would like to say a big thank you for the tips x
ReplyDeleteYou're Welcome :)
Deletenice tips but pls dont forget to talk about scab hair(i call it bad bad hair) in your next post on transitioning.its the first few inches of hair that comes out from the scalp when transitioning.
ReplyDeleteOh! Tanx for the info.
DeleteThank you for this article! Braids really helped me during my transition. Am currently 9 months post relaxer and I hv to say that DC is d ish! Makes my hair so much softer. Also the LOC method works as with it I only had to remoisturise every 2 days!
ReplyDeleteAttagirl! Welcome!
Deletemy hair is really hard to manage and i have been thinking of doing the big chop you know...m really tyrd of transitioning cos some nigerian salons arnt even helping matters wen it comes to transitoning hair, they just handle my hair badly,i think its better i big chop and know my hair from the very start, what do you think?
ReplyDeleteYou're very free to big chop! We've got your back! :)
DeleteTransitioning can be very challenging and frustrating.
i'm 4 months in my transition, braiding don't work for me it leaves my hair itchy and miserable tho they are not tight, i do my box braids myself.I am currently researching for hair styles on youtube and anywhere i can get ideas. right now i decide to do styles using the ECO Krystal gel on Thursdays & Fridays and wash & deep condition on Saturdays. Any suggestions.
ReplyDeleteyou could be allergic to the chemicals used to process the hair. You could opt for styling your hair with just your hair. I do flat twists, african threading (irun kiko), cornrows or you could wear a simple bun through out the week. :)
Delete@tahjmal Have you tried kinky or Marley twists. These extensions are very light and washable. How about you invest in some wigs and put your hair in conrows? Does that help?
ReplyDeletemy biggest challenge is the itching , dry scalp and then styling , i dont know many styles except the bantu knots i do , any other ideas???
ReplyDeleteHow often do you do the Black tea rinse? Twist-outs? Braid-outs? Buns? Conrows?
Deletei v never tried out all these , i dont know how to unfortunately, but i do braids n conrows not with my hair doe , and its always hard taking care of my hair with the braids on ,
DeleteFor the itching and dry scalp, try adding peppermint or tea tree oil to oil and water in a spray bottle and spritz your scalp.
DeleteAre you using a shampoo with sulphates? That may also be the cause.
For styling, youtube and pin interest are your dear friends. You will learn loads of styles.

I am 4 months into the transitioning journey and believe you me it is not easy, however I intend to stick with it for 8 more months. I tried the black tea rinse , the results? WOW !! it works, there was less breakage and hair felt much softer. Thanks for the tips. :)
