Can someone
tell me what my eye has not seen in this journey to be a naturalista? From frozen
hair, to grey hair, to leaking hair, to facial breakouts, to nasty sisters, nasty church members, nasty colleagues, and nasty bosses, I have seen them all. If not
for supportive boyfriends, and friends that feel our pain, I would have buried
myself and resurrected over and over again.
Just when I
thought I had experienced it all, I experienced one more thing that seemed to
beat them all. If you read my diary often, it won’t be news to you that I am
quite adventurous, and not loyal to regimens, routines, or products. I should
probably stop this bad habit. I am officially the queen of DIYs that seem to go
awry.
It seems in
recent times, I have been tempted to do one treatment or the other on my hair
every weekend, thanks to more free time on my hands since I started serving at
the Ministry. I have never done a protein treatment on my hair, so I thought it
was high time I tried this thing everyone has been raving about on the
internet.
I mixed egg,
coconut oil, and olive oil on my hair, and coated every part of my hair with
it. I covered my hair with a plastic bag, and then with a scarf. Two hours
later, I wanted to wash my hair, and took off the scarf and plastic bag.
What did I see?
Did I see a shiny sleek hair? No. I saw white particles on my hair. The egg had
cooked on my hair. I wanted to cry, but since I am a big girl, I did not. I just
asked myself why I was following procedures of those black Americans. I mean
they live in the US, while I live in a place we fast and pray for electricity.
I had done this egg treatment when I had no light at home. The whole house was
hot, and to top it all up, I created an extra hot environment on my hair, by
using an air tight plastic cap, and a scarf on top.
If that
were the end of my story, maybe it would have been okay. I had already prepared
warm water to rinse off the treatment. So when I saw the development on my
hair, I just hissed and went to ‘rinse it off’ with the warm water, without
thinking. Haaaa. If the heat cooked the egg, this warm water fried the
remaining that was not cooked. This time, I couldn’t take it anymore, I cried
and cried. I cried my eyes out, so much that no one could pack my tears.

Let’s just
say this happened two days ago, and I am still picking fried eggs out of my
hair. If you have picked eggs out of your hair, you will understand why it is a
task from hell.
I will
never ever ever try using eggs on my hair again. I don’t care if it is a fantastic
hair treatment or the only way to eternal life. I will never do it.

Hi sorry. You'd have been our winner for this post, but you did not comment about the post.
DeleteOuch!!!! I'm sorry you had to cry, but its one more lesson learned na. Are you sure you didn't miss out on a step? Has anyone else complained of the protein treatment?
ReplyDeleteWithout sounding "uncaring" your experiments actually help me know what not to try at all and what I can attempt.

:D
ReplyDeleteLol.
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness! People r always warned not to use an external heat source. I had no idea just carrying it on with out heat could cause d egg to cook. Lol! This egg ehn. Kpele. Maybe next time carry it for 20mins or less. Or use manufactured protein treatments like organic root stimulator hair mayonaise.
ReplyDeleteOr don't. Lol. You probably only use natural hair products. No biggie. I want to get in those myself. Esp as I'm going on my natural hair journey in a few days with a big chop. #excitedand scaredmuch
DeleteLmao
ReplyDeleteLol
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to have the eggs cooked up in your hair? Never experienced it and I've done it in Nig
Guess I was just lucky
Yes o. A lot of people have that experience
DeleteThis happened to me! I wasn't wearing a plastic cap at first but the thing was dripping like crazy so I put one on to try and minimize the dripping. Fast forward to after rinsing it out and my sister says "why are there white things in your hair?!"
ReplyDeleteLoooolll.
Deletelmaooo...i'm sorry but it took me a while to stop lafn after reading this. i hope uv bn able to get all d pieces of egg out of ur hair tho?! i av never bn a fan of egg treatments so i av never used it n never will all because i just cant stand d smell.
ReplyDeleteI tried it once in the US in winter and I was fine. Loved it. Then I tried it in hot and humid port harcourt and went around paranoid that I smelled of eggs even though my family assured me that I didn't. After 3 days I did my entire wash day routine just to get rid of the egg smell. Never ever again. I'll stick to ORS hair mayonnaise.
ReplyDeleteThe weather in which one is doing these treatments sure matters a lot. We also have deep conditioning mayonnaise on our online store, just in case.
DeleteAll these natural DIY treatments. I did a honey facial and got my eyelashes stuck together. That's been warning enough to keep me from trying a honey hair treatment. You live you learn. Hair wise, the weirdest thing I put in my hair was garlic to help with shedding. I couldn't bear the stink of myself, it was positively antisocial to be around. In the end, I had to wash my hair with dish soap and ground tomatoes which I must tell you is not great for the hair.
ReplyDeleteYour story is just to funny. Garlic? Tomatoes? You are definitely cooking your hair into soup. Lol
