I met a lady at the salon some weeks back and I just could not stop staring at her natural hair. It was beginning to get weird so I started a conversation, i asked about her regimen and I was shocked when she said she had none! In fact she said she only does protective styling and the normal washing and conditioning after taking out every protective style! My jaw dropped! she went ahead and said she doesn't even own any product, I asked if she does the regular "LOC" and all for moisture and she said the heat from her scalp does that already! Hmmmm at this point I could not even deal anymore and I just let her and her hair be!
I know we have all heard or read some insane and unbelievable things during the cause of our natural hair journeys, a friend also said her stylist told her washing her hair every other week causes it to shed. BIG FAT LIE shey? lol.. Please share with us some of those weird things you heard, read or have seen.
We love hearing from you
see you in the comment
section.
Do you know weed smokers tend to have long hair? Please, don't gaan be smoking weed o.
ReplyDeleteSome even mix weed with their hair creams. The worse part is that the creams are petroleum jelly based
DeleteLol.
DeleteI know right
DeleteI heard that washing hair every month sef is bad. You should leave it to be very dirty like the Fulani people who have very long hair and sometimes even lice on the hair.
ReplyDeleteLice ke?!
DeleteYes o lice. The dirt is meant to help the hair grow.
DeleteI can't deal o.....lol
DeleteI had the same feeling when I first heard it.
DeleteSome say if a woman who just had a baby makes your hair it'll suffer breakage :)
ReplyDeleteLol
DeleteI think it's called post partum shedding. It happens to some people
DeleteI know I have to moisturize and every other day to help my hair retain moisture.
ReplyDeleteUsing methalated spirit on the edges to avoid breakage.
ReplyDeleteI've only heard about its usage for cleaning the scalp
DeleteBut methylated spirit is alcohol which dries out the hair.
DeleteThat's why it's a myth
Delete@Bukola, I believe the lady hair at the salon was looking lush and beautiful. She reminds me of my aunt who has never had a relax and her natural hair is long and beautiful. When I started my natural hair journey, I asked her what her regiment was and she said, I wash with any nice smelly shampoo, condition the hair, put the hair in 3 threaded sections at night and bun it during the week.
ReplyDeleteThat took me by surprise.
Oh well, I guess when you find what works for you, stick to it.
You are right dear....We have to look for what works for our individual heads of hair.
DeleteMyth upon myth.
