'Research and stick with whatever works for your natural hair.' Mane Matters with Alexandria

Hiya Naturalistas,

Hope you are all doing great? Meet today's feature...

Enjoy!

Can you tell us who you are and what you do?
I'm Alexandria Nnamaka, a medical student and occasional blogger.

When/why did you decide to go natural?
'Going natural' wasn't exactly a decision for me, I was alone in my room one day and chopped about 3 inches off my relaxed hair. That was in 2013.

Did you do a BC or you transitioned?
I transitioned, I admire people that big chop but I don't have that type of courage.

What was the experience like?
It was exciting at first, I thought I was going to grow this huge full Afro because I had straggly hair.

What was/is your biggest fear about going Natural?
My biggest fear was that my hair would get to a point and stop growing (still is), but I'm just trying to enjoy every step of this journey.

Do you have a regimen you stick to? What is it like?
I'm very lazy with my hair and have no fixed regimen. Right now, it's cowash every week, deep condition and shampoo twice a month.

What emotional struggles, if any, have you faced since going natural?
There was this one time I was feeling myself and carried a twist out for a lecture and my lecturer was like "why do you look like one of the patients?" I was distraught, but now I laugh over it when telling friends.

Do you think you are in it for the long haul or is it just a phase?
Long haul definitely.

There are people that definitely have negative comments about you hair, how do you deal with that?
I just block out negative comments now, I don't bother responding.

What's your must have product and accessory?
Profectiv Mega Growth Leave-in Conditioner; it's amazing really and a hair band.
What is your go-to style?
Puffs.

What advice do you have for anyone just going natural?
Do your research and stick with whatever works for you. Some days your hair wouldn't be perfect, embrace every single step of your journey.
