I was deep conditioning my hair with my African Naturalistas Deep Conditioner, when I decided to have a cup of tea. I like to use my DC time to relax and I find tea to be very calming. Usually, I would simply throw the tea bags away, but this time I decided to put them to good use by doing a tea rinse (another way to use your tea bags is to let them cool and place over your eyes for a few minutes).
Anyway, I used regular tea, and left the tea bags in hot water for about 30 minutes while my DC was on.
The hair was soft though, so I liked that. Funny thing happened - my comb started to shed too while combing after the whole process!
I've had the comb for years though, so I think it's time to move on.
My hair's been cornrowed and placed under my clip-ins since then, so I don't know if it's still shedding as much or if the tea rinse worked.
I would suggest that before you do a tea rinse, research the topic first. If I had done that, I would have DC'd AFTER the tea, not before. Discovering Natural has a video on Black Tea Rinses which I'll leave below, and she says that consistency is key - she does hers twice a month.
Have a good weekend,

Everyone has that comb that even if its broken they will still have it
ReplyDeleteLOOOL so true about the comb Oreoluwa!
DeleteEven though you did the tea rinse after, your hair was still soft #winning. I know black tea in particular leaves hair hard. But some herbal teas don't have that effect. Ive played around with rosemary, sage and thyme ...they didn't harden my hair after I used them as a final rinse.
Nice post!
LOL @ Oreoluwa. I quite agree
Delete@ Bee: I used black tea though. I didn't know it made some people's hair hard. I thought it was supposed to help soften.
Loool very true
DeleteLoooolll. LMAO. So did you expect the tea to glue back the shed hair that has been trapped in your hair in the past couple of days to your head? I think you should do it like once or twice a month for sometime and see how your shedding reduces over time. That's the real test, I guess.
ReplyDeleteAh, I guess that makes sense. LOL, I really expected an immediate fix.

please if you find any product that will glue back my hair, share the knowledge and save lives lol
DeleteIts best after washing as it makes the hair a bit hard.Don't think i saw much difference in my hair with the rinse,so i gradually stopped.Your hair does look shiny.
DeleteI agree with Aurora, I didn't notice much difference in shedding so I just stopped altogether.
ReplyDeleteReally? Hmm. How often did you do it?
DeleteHmm thats strange. I notice alot of difference. Mayb the concentration was too much for you. Try coffee or green tea
DeleteLol @glue.
ReplyDeleteI have tried a black tea rinse , it made my hair hard and I didn't see any difference as to shedding.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks very healthy Berry, have a great week ahead
How long did you do it for? Discovering Natural suggests doing it every couple of weeks for a little while.
DeleteI cant go tru a wash day without doing my black tea rinse
ReplyDeleteIt made my hair hard. I didn't see much difference.
ReplyDeleteI am going to include it in my regiment and do it before deep conditioning my hair and more often as has been suggested by AN.
I do tea rinses after every wash day. In fact, it's a staple plus as a tea junkie, I get to mix all sorts of tea from black tea to peppermint to chamomile.
ReplyDeleteWhich explains why I hardly experience any breakage.
