Hi Natural Beauties,
Happy new month to you all.
Let's meet Uju
Let's meet Uju
Can you tell us who you are and what
you do?
My name is Uju Lilian, I am a Blogger on
various blogs, www.ethniques.blogspot.com is my personal blog, A social media
analyst / manager and I design 2D graphics.
What are your thoughts about natural
hair?
I think Natural hair is healthy and
flexible, its healthy because you don't have to use many artificial chemicals,
and its flexible because you can style it in different interesting ways.
When/why did you decide to go
natural?
I went natural about 10 months ago. I
decided to go Natural because I have a very unusual soft hair, it wasn't just
normal, because it looked and felt like a baby's hair, each time I go to the
saloon, the stylist always get scared to relax my hair because she felt it
would get burnt. My hair stylist finally advised me to go Natural for a while
to see if my hair would gain strength. Behold the birth of my Natural hair.
Did you do a BC or you transitioned?
I just trimmed the ends of my hair,
then started transitioning.
What was the experience like?
Very interesting and adventurous
What was/is your biggest fear about
going Natural?
My initial fear was that I wont be
able to fix hair extensions and bring out my hair at the front, but as soon as
I discovered many beautiful things I can do with my Natural hair, my fear
vanished
Do you have a regimen you stick to?
What is it like?
Yeah, as soon as I take out my hair
extension, I deep condition my hair, then do corn rows or thread my hair so it
can stretch, and I always spray my hair with water and coconut oil for one month
before I fix or braid. This has helped me keep my edge safe. On few occasions I
do protein treatment.
What emotional struggles, if any,
have you faced since going natural?
I haven't faced any.
Do you think you are in it for the
long haul or is it just a phase?
I am so in it for a VERY long time,
as long as forever *I pray* #TeamNatural
There are people that definitely have
negative comments about you hair, how do you deal with that?
I have never gotten any negative comments,
infact I get positive comments and people always ask me for tips on how to go
Natural, even people that use to call me rat hair before I started transitioning,
are now amazed with the beautiful turnout of my Natural hair. My hair stylist
is so happy with my hair now
What's your must have product and
accessory?
My must have product is Shea butter,
edge control and a good leave-in conditioner. My must have hair accessory is a
hair band and a bobby pin
What is your go-to style?
My go to style is a mini/pineapple
afro or a bun
What advice do you have for anyone
just going natural?
Be patient, Love your hair and avoid too many
chemicals
