Hello everyone!
Two Sundays ago, I had a conversation with an usher in my church. In fact, a couple of months ago, she approached me first and asked about my hair. You know as Naturalistas, there's a kindred spirit that binds us together. The first thing that struck initially was her beautifully styled natural hair under a fascinator. As usual I was curious enough to strike a conversation. The first I done was to complement her hair and ask where she got it did. I blurted the first salon that came to mind and she confirmed it. In fact, we said it in unison. So, we got chatting until she mentioned that, ''natural hair is not allowed in her office''. I was gobsmacked. Of course I've heard before now that natural hair is a controversial issue and it's not even allowed in some offices but I've never really heard a first hand account.
This took me by surprise because her hair was so gorgeous. She had to go the extra mile of styling her hair in a salon rather than by herself just so that it would be approved.
I don't even know what to think.
So, ladies how do you cope with your natural hair in your offices?
Love, kinks and knots.

There are bunches of naturals in my office, so it's not even an issue. From buns to puffs to twists to cornrows to locs, you'll see it at my office.
ReplyDeleteLucky you!
DeleteIf it is not specifically stated in the company policies, then wear it neatly and stylishly. No crazy frohawks or strangle gigantic elvis presley looking pomps, though I wore crazy frohawks in my days, and that's because I could get way with it.
ReplyDeleteAnd if it is not allowed in the company policy, tell them your go to deeper life, CAC or any of those churches that don't allow relaxed hair, simple! Nigerians respect religion, lol.
As long as you're not doing outlandish styles and screaming for attention there should be no problem with natural hair. There are a lot of naturals where I work so no problems there
ReplyDeletePlease o! This has been a serious issue for me. I need tips. I'm a TV presenter and not everyone is in live with my hair at work. My hair is medium length but not all the 'creative' styles I've come up with have gone down well with folks at work.
ReplyDeleteNa wa o. I know you personally, and I know you take careful efforts to make your hair look good. You are one stylish and creative person. In my opinion, I think they just aren't used to natural hair in that environment yet, and many naturalistas have gone through this. I think you should just keep doing what you are doing. With time, they would get used to it, and start going natural because of you. That is how it happens most times.
