I'm really heartbroken about so many things happening now. In living out our daily lives, we are either exposed to unending bad news or victims of such situations. I honestly didn't know how to react to the news of the second missing plane this year. I mean, how does a plane just disappear from the face of the earth, without a single trace? With all the world experts and postulated theories, no one can answer for a certainty the location of these planes.
In other news, I am enjoying the current respite I have gotten from the fact that my hair is in braids. Dimeji can now play with my hair, without the fear of getting his hands slapped off. I have been very adventurous with my extensions, packing it in various styles every day. Since it was not picked tight and tiny, round the edges, I am not really concerned about breakage.
The downside to the extension experience is the way natural hair purists and the relaxed associates have been handling the whole business. It's either they cast a questioning glance at my hair or downright ask mean why I chose to have braids on. I began wondering if there was a law which started that "thou shall not braid thy hair with extensions if thou be natural"
"What is this on your head?" A fellow natural bluntly asked me on Friday.
I was extremely taken aback cos of her directness. I was confused as to what exactly I should say to her. "Kinky braids," I finally said.
"Why did you braid your hair?"
I was going to give her the real explanation about how I just wanted a break, but changed my mind. "Because I feel like." I said instead.
"Na wa o. Maybe you should have made it shorter, like the real length of your hair, and less voluminous. That way, it won't be able to obvious that you are on extensions."
"But I am not ashamed or trying to hide anything." I retorted.
She rolled her eyes at me before continuing. "As for me o, I think naturals should stay off extensions as much as possible."
"Madam, I have not had extensions in over a year, and I don't want harmattan drama this year. Anyway, thanks, I have to run now," I said as I walked away before she could offer any more opinions.

This brings something to mind... there are some naturals who won't wear weaves, braids, etc in textures that don't mimic natural hair. Any thoughts on that?
ReplyDeleteI think everyone should just do what they like. Let's not cage people with man-made rules
DeleteI tried braids with normal xpression hair extentions.......massive ERROR I arried at NYSC camp looking like I had 6mnth old hair 3 days after making it. If itz nt kinky hell 2 d no
ReplyDeleteBuahahahahahahahaha!!!!
DeleteOoops, I mean "awww sorry." But hey, that's a very good point
My hair is like that too. I can't braid with normal extensions. It gets rough easily. I can only do kinky braids. That's why we all have to understand our hair textures.
Deleteplease o, what is anyone's business with my hair? its not like they ever bought me a single hair product. just ignore them. its your hair and i think you should feel free to handle it how you want so far you understand the implications involved...
ReplyDeleteIf only we lived in a world where people minded their businesses...
DeleteAs for me i do weaves, extensions and i even coloured my hair. i just don't do relaxers anymore. I am currently on jumbo braids using super star extension and i am pleasantly surprised that my hair hasn't frizzed out. I have carried this style for almost 2wks and I am hoping to stretch it out to 3 weeks.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I don't know all these styles and extensions you are mentioning, but maybe you have the type of hair that doesn't in extensions very fast
DeleteI tire ooooooh for ppl so obsessed with natural hair that they forget to mind their business *currentlygettingkinkybraidshamattandonshowmepepper*
ReplyDeleteTrue life, lol.
