Hello everyone,

Remember how I was generously allowed to put up a post from Nappily Nigerian Girl on different natural hair treatments and when to do them? Last week, I decided to do a Henna Treatment, as this helps to strengthen and reinforce hair strands. However, Kemi Lewis of KL's Naturals told me she wanted to try something different - Rhassoul Clay (she blogged about it here)! I've never tried any of these natural/ayurvedic treatments (never even done a Tea Rinse), so I said YES! I'll try almost anything as long as I'm not the one mixing and applying it. I got it done at the Naija Hair Can Grow Salon Day Out on Sunday and below is the process with pictures and my review.

But first, what is Rhassoul clay? It's a natural mineral clay found in Morocco (Moroccans have it all - argan oil, this... share the beauty!!!) It's high in silicon (58%) and magnesium (25.2%), amongst other elements, which are good for skin and hair. It is typically mixed with water to form a cleansing treatment for hair and skin. You can also use it for facials :)

Her secret ingredient - Vatika Coconut oil

She mixed Rhassoul clay with water and coconut oil. Your mix shouldn't be paste-like. You want a consistency like thick hot chocolate. If you use too much clay, Kemi explained that it can begin to dry out and harden on your hair.

bentonite clay
Curls loosening a teeny bit and stretching. Rhassoul clay improves elasticity, which in turn helps with detangling your hair.

And then we went to rinse off. Before you rinse it all off, make sure you rub your scalp with your fingertips, to get the clay activated on your scalp. Then rinse off completely.

My hair was dried using an old t-shirt

Mmmmm, clean hair

The hair was soft, moisturized and easy to comb!

With a Rhassoul Clay treatment, you don't need to deep condition or shampoo, as it cleans, detoxifies and conditions your hair all-in-one!!! Talk about cutting your wash day in half! I'm definitely sold after this. You can mix your clay with almost anything - olive oil, tea tree oil, other essential or carrier oils, aloe vera juice, etc - it's really up to you and what you think your hair needs. Some of the benefits of Rhassoul Clay are:

  • Completely non-irritating to skin and scalp
  • Cleans skin and hair without removing all of its protective sebum
  • Removes surface oil and oil from inside and around comedones (blackheads and whiteheads)
  • Leaves hair soft and shiny and enhances its volume
  • Gradually reduces the need for frequent hair washing
  • Removes dandruff and eases problems of excessively oily hair

  • does not strip natural oils from your hair and skin
  • detoxifies (removes impurities)
  • deep cleansing and conditioning treatment for hair
  • clarifies your hair
  • nourishes your hair
  • improves skin clarity, elasticity and firmness
  • smoother hair and skin
  • reduce secretion of sebum
  • treat and heals eczema, psoriasis, and acne

I'm supposed to be putting my hair in a long term protective style this weekend, and will be doing an overnight DC treatment, followed by a hot oil treatment. This will ensure that my hair is adequately moisturized, since the hairstyle I'm doing will be hiding most, if not all my hair. I will post pictures next week - IF I do the style I want, that is.

Have a great weekend!

Berry Dakara.

  1. Seems like a great experience. I might try this in future, if someone gives me the clay for free, lol. So many treatments these days.

  2. Can't wait to try this out in my next wash. read somewhere that it defines your curls better than the bentonite clay.

  3. Sounds like a hair nd skin miracle

  4. I voted yay! I have a jar of rhassoul clay that I bought 2 months ago and havent used, must try this when I take down my braids end of the month

  5. This looks nice. I'm new to ayurveda but I'm loving it already

  6. Looks like it was a great experience. I have relaxed hair but I like to try natural hair products too. I was pleasantly surprised to see that when I used rhassoul clay on my hair, it actually made my coils pop.

  7. I like the fact that it cut wash day Into maybe just 1 or 2 activities.
I love the fact that it is for both hair and skin.
Its sound like it might be pricey though.
