Hi Naturals.
We all know that having an Itchy scalp could be so annoying. You get to scratch your hair constantly and may even end up having an injury if your scalp is as sensitive as mine is.
I remember when my scalp used to itch so much, it wasn't a good experience at all. I used to have dandruff which wasn't funny as flakes would fall off like powder and it could be so embarrassing... lol. Thus, it triggered the itchy scalp. Asides dandruff, itchy scalp could be caused by heat, stress, scalp infection, product buildup, or even a reaction to a product.
I would like to share 3 ways one can get rid of itchy scalp. I tried them and they worked.
1. Moisturize your scalp with moisturizing oils/cream : When the hair is dry, it turns brittle and a dry scalp causes itchiness. So always try to keep your scalp moisturised as often as possible.
2. Clean Your Scalp Properly during wash : Try to wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo once a month and follow up with a moisturizing conditioner. This would help to prevent product buildup. Also get a shampoo that contains tea tree oil or you get the oil itself. It reduces the itch as it helps get rid of Dandruff too.
3. Clean your scalp with lemon juice:
Squeeze out the juice from the lemon into a plastic bowl. Using a cotton wool, clean your scalp with it and leave for about 30mins before washing and conditioning. In a couple of days, you would say goodbye to itchy scalp for good as lemon has antiseptic properties which revitalize the scalp.
Please note that itchy scalp leads to hairloss as when we scratch our head, it causes the hair to weaken and fall off. So whenever your scalp itches like crazy, you should know something is wrong and you could try this tips.
Ps: Remember to share your hair story with us. We really want to see your beautiful crown and learn few things from you. Kindly send a mail to manematters@africanaturalistas.com

Informative.Would like to add that using shampoos containing pyrithione zinc can curtail dandruff, this worked for me.
ReplyDeletelemon juice keh, what if it enters the eyes ehen, okay oh. my own itchy hair was from product build up i just had to reduce the amount and the itching stopped
ReplyDeleteLovely advice. For me, what really works is acv, I had to add this to my spray bottle and spritz my scalp once or twice a day for it to have any effect. Using it as a rinse during wash days just wasn't enough.
ReplyDeletehmmm interesting i will try this when i have have a busy schedule.
DeleteYou should, it might work for you.
DeleteGreat tips, Elizabeth. I just hope the lemon juice used on the scal won't run through the hair strands, seeing the pH is too high/acidic for the hair.
ReplyDeleteI used to have serious issues with itchy scalp back in the days. Ever since I started doing tea rinse once a month, and making sure my scalp is not too dry most times, things got better.
Please can one use the lemon juice or ACV on a toddler's scalp? Cos mine scratches her head on week 2 of her hairdo. I wash her hair every 2 weeks. I moisturize everyday, and when I use the oils/sheabutter, she scratches less. No sign of dandruff.
ReplyDeleteI can't try lemon juice for fear of an allergic reaction. Even ACV makes me break out.
ReplyDeleteBerry Dakara Blog
I was scratching my head scrolled down my blog list and saw this lool.

DeleteMoisturize with creams? Won't it lead to build-up and itchy scalp eventually?
ReplyDeleteI reason the same.Im of the school of thought that the scalp or rather the pores on the scalp need to be clean and therefore left to breathe and do their thing, without being covered or blocked with products. Now the hair is another matter as its basically dead and contains no living constituents.
ReplyDeleteI had itchy scalp and dandruff from my "relaxer" days, when I went natural, it rolled over too. So one day, I decided to use aloevera juice, actually I blended the whole aloevera including the green covering and deep conditioned with it, I did this thrice for a month, And since then I don't have dandruff nor itchy scalp but only if people put their fingers in my hair.
ReplyDeleteACV made me itch and stung my eyes like hell. I hope this can help someone.
Oh. If you have braids or any protective style on, and it itches, you can massage your scalp with a mix of oils of your choice (i use only castor oil).
I used to have itchy scalp.Mehn, how much I scratched.I had sensitive scalp also, sometimes I bleed from scratching. The things that cured it were aloe Vera gel,acv and lemon.
