Hello everyone!
I recently read about the Indian oiling method, then Discovering Natural talked about the importance of an oil mix. I knew the universe was telling me something. It was nudging in the direction of my oils.
The Indian oiling method as the name implies is one of the regimens used by the Indians to grow their waist-long hair. Everyone knows the Indians have the best hair methods. It basically involves oiling your scalp/hair everyday. Of course, it also has to be strongly present in your wash days. Anyways, it's specially targeted towards people that suffer from unexplained dryness, brittleness, breakage, hair shed and dullness.
Why am I bothering myself with this you might ask? It's not like my hair is in a terrible state. It's pretty fine except the unexplained dryness and dullness. My hair's terribly dull and naturally dry. After reading about it, I realised that I could actually do something about it - just increase the usage of oils in my regimen and after a while I might see results. Just ask Nappily Nigeriangirl.
The first thing I did was to create an oil mix in my applicator bottle. I gathered all of the oils that I had and mixed them together in small quantities. It consists of
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Sunflower Seed Oil
- Sesame Oil
- Castor oil
- Coconut oil
- Eucalyptus essential oil
- Lavender essential oil
Next, I tried to look for ways to incorporate oils into my regimen without affecting my moisture levels. Just so you know, oils are not moisturizers.
1. Try to pre-poo before co-washing during the week. I don't pre-poo during wash days because I deep condition first but I co-wash mid weekly.
2. Seal with oils instead of light butters after moisturizing.
3. Oil scalp daily and focus on my ends.
Note that it's important to use oils in small quantities to avoid build-up. If your hair's greasy, it means you've applied too much. A pint-size for each section will do just fine.
So far, I've managed to be consistent although I still forget to oil my scalp daily but baby steps. One day at a time.
So, over to you!
How do you use your oils in your regimen?

Like you, I incorporate oil using by spray bottle daily. I spray my hair at least ones a day.
ReplyDeleteI also use oil when I want my hair to have the shiny look.
I use applicator bottles daily or wen needed
DeleteI like the spray bottle idea
ReplyDeleteNNG's hair is sooooooooo long! I wish I had time, energy and discipline to try this out. I'd probably get tired by Day 2.
ReplyDeleteLol dedication is key
DeleteExactly!
DeleteBerry's a lazy natural so..
Lmaoo in two days ke
DeleteBeen doing the oiling method ever since I read about it on NNG, I use her tweaked method but mostly with coconut and olive oil. Its been good for my hair so far.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
DeleteCan't wait to see results too!
Pre-Poo with Vatika Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil/Coconut oil is a must for me!Also sealing with Extra Virgin Olive Oil/Coconut Oil.
ReplyDeleteThats cool
DeleteWell done Ebun, may you reap the reward of your labour. I am not sure how you can prepoo with this oil mix though. The molecules are too large to function as a prepoo treatment. It seems to me like just be coating your hair with oil, and shampooing away in a matter of minutes or hours.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ati!
DeleteHmm..Isn't that the point though? Coating the hair with oil to avoid being stripped?
Ever since seeing NNG's posts on said topic,it has been on my to-do list.*sighs*
ReplyDeleteI suppose that even if the oil molecules are too large to penetrate the hair shaft, they could be protective because the oil will coat the strand, preventing the shampoo from completely stripping the hair of oils and avoiding brittleness.
ReplyDeleteI do the LOC method daily!!! have never missed a day,so, does that count?
ReplyDeleteLol. Not really.
DeleteLOC method is just for moisturizing.
I've been doing the Indian oiling method ever since I read up on it on NNG! Hope it works!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
DeleteThis is on my to-do list too. I have promised to give this a try once I get an applicator bottle.
ReplyDeleteYeah
DeleteI'm just getting into the swing of using oils. It's a bit hard as someone who is protein sensitive, things like coconut oil and EVOO make my hair brittle. However I'll be experimenting with castor and grape-seed oil as I have heard many good things about them.
ReplyDeleteYou should.
DeleteTrue. As that brittleness could lead to breakage.Coconut and olive oil work wonders.
ReplyDeleteCant do without my mixed oils
