Read more about Ifitimi below...
Can you tell us who
you are and what you do?
My
name's Ifitumi (FITS). A MUA from Lokoja in Kogi State.
What are your
thoughts about natural hair?
Natural
hair is beautifully African, it is the real 'YOU' in silent expressions.
When/why did you
decide to go natural?
I
decided to go natural last year(2014). Precisely-October.
Did you do a BC or
you transitioned?
I
definitely transitioned
What was the
experience like?
I
have always been a lover of braids. My friends would even call me Ezenwanyi(
lol). I rarely fix my hair. And even if I do,it's once in a blue moon. Under
my braids, were revealing undergrowth that got me really frustrated but I decided
not to relax for some time to enable my hair regain it's strength due to
breakage. I decided to chop off the relaxed ends in March, and decided to go
natural. Lol
What was/is your
biggest fear about going Natural?
My
biggest fear was if I was really going to have time to care for my hair.
Do you have a regimen
you stick to? What is it like?
I
knew time was going to be a problem for me, so, I had to adhere to a simple
regimen. I do protective styles alot. Wear them for 2-3wks, then wash with my
Jojoba shampoo/conditioner. I still use my Aphogee Curlific Texture Treatment.
After drying( a little damp), I apply shea butter mixed with olive oil for extra
shine, then allow to air dry, or use handdryer on medium heat to dry. My Creme
Of Nature'Perfect Edges' or 'Play n Stay' Olive Oil for edge control. When am
all free during my wash days, I do some funny kind of concoction of fresh aloe
Vera gel,vitamin E gel(I break it n use d oil), and shea butter(apply this
before washing-it does magic). When am all hasty, I do my wash n go. Lol
What emotional
struggles, if any, have you faced since going natural?
No
emotional struggles really, but oh dear! I hate combing my hair. Lol
Do you think you are
in it for the long haul or is it just a phase?
Ah!
I am so going 'lifetime' with this hair. Am loving it. Haba! I get nice
comments. Lol
There are people that
definitely have negative comments about you hair, how do you deal with that?
Funny
enough, I haven't had any negative comments coming in.
What's your must have
product and accessory?
One
product I just can't do without - Shea butter(it's all-in-one). Hair accessory
-my little hair scarf.
What is your go-to
style?
Flat twist
Flat twist
What advice do you
have for anyone just going natural?
If
your just going natural? Yeepee! You are in for fun with your hair. Care for it
like that doll u had as a baby(lol). Be focused too even though it's going to
be challenging. Nothing cute is gotten easy.
