Let's meet Lecia
Can you tell us
who you are and what you do?
Hello, my name
is Lecia, just graduated from The University of
Lagos and awaiting service.
What are
your thoughts about natural hair?
Natural is the
best free gift aside life one can have.
When/why did you
decide to go natural?
Well, I really
can’t say specifically but I dreaded the creamy crack because I have a very
tender scalp and I also had a very unmanageable hair so my last perm was on
February the 12th and I continued to manage it by straightening
because I thought it would revert back but the damage was done already as I
suffered from excessive heat damage, last flat iron was on the 4th
of August.
Did you do a BC or you transitioned?
I transitioned for 7 months though
I BCed thrice in between to get the final weak ends out.
What
was the experience like?
The experience from transitioning
hasn’t been honestly smooth but I loved it and learnt a lot.
What was/is
your biggest fear about going Natural?
The fear of having unmanageable hair though relaxing was impossible
because I just couldn’t suffer another scalp mishap, lol.
Do you have a regimen you stick to? What is it like?
Deep conditioning over and over again.
What
emotional struggles, if any, have you faced since going natural?
Friends and families couldn’t come to terms.
Do you think you are in it for the long haul or is it just a phase?
So help me God, for the long haul.
There are people that definitely have
negative comments about your hair, how do you deal with that?
I smile and tell them they would
change eventually.
What's your
must have product and accessory?
Leave-in conditioner and shoe lace for my regular bun, lol.
What is your go-to style?
Bun or cinnamon-bun if the bobby pins
decide to be loyal.
What advice do you have for anyone just going natural?
Please love your hair and try to
get rid of the raggedy ends fast dealing with both types of hair wasn’t nice
but overall, stick to the regimen and product your hair loves.
