Reasons why you might be having dry scalp

Hi Naturalistas,
Hope you are all doing good?

Today, I would be talking about dry scalp. I have a dry scalp and now it's under control as I have been taking care of it. I have come to realise that there is a difference between dry scalp and dandruff.

However, here are reasons why you might be experiencing a dry scalp

1. You do not drink enough water.
I was really bad at this. I never used to drink water for a whole day sometimes until I realised how important it was. Our body needs water to strive. It can't produce water on its own. When we don't drink enough water, our body reacts to it, it could lead to  breakouts like pimples, dehydration, and off course dry scalp. Our hair, skin and nails suffer when we don't drink enough water. Depending on how the body intends to react. So drink up. At least 2litres a day for a start.
2. You do not have a good hair care routine. You should know when your hair would need a wash and how long you should be on a protective style.  You should know whether you have to shampoo or co-wash twice or more in a week to keep the dry scalp off. As for me, I had to wash and condition my hair every two weeks. I can't carry a protective style for more than 2weeks. Just find what works for you.
3. You rarely moisturise your scalp. Applying moisture to your scalp is very important. You should always pay attention to your scalp. When you feel your scalp is a bit flaky, you need to moisturise. Whether a mix of water and a leave-in conditioner or any moisturising mix of your choice. If it doesn't work, then you need to know it's time for co-washing.
4. You don't have a balance diet.
Most times we spend much time buying so much products to care for our hair and not caring more about what we take inside our body that would overall health and help with our hair as well. It's more about what we eat and drink. And not about the products you use sometimes. So start with your diet. I remember eating really healthy and working out sometime in 2014. My hair grew faster and I didn't experience dry scalp. I hope I can do it all over

So that's it.

What other reasons do you think could cause a dry scalp? Do you think dandruff is different from dry scalp too?

P.s: if you are doing everything right and still experience dry scalp, see a hair specialist.

  5. Nice tips. I also battled with dry scalp. Another way to combat it is to regulate sebum production using jojoba oil.
