3 Tips for the Natural Hair Bride

As you know, more and more naturalistas all over the world are making the decision to have their natural hair styled for their weddings. As a former Natural Hair Bride, here are some tips to help you before you walk down the aisle.

  1. Hair Style Choice:
Google should be your new best friend for checking out different natural hairstyles. You don't even necessarily have to search for "natural hair bride styles." A simple search for "elegant natural hair styles" or "natural hair updos" or any words that describe your wedding theme will suffice. As you gather photos, you will likely find yourself gravitating towards a particular type of style. If you are using a hair stylist, ensure that you have a consultation a few weeks before the wedding to try out different styles, which will help you make your final decision.
  2. Self-Style or Hair Stylists:
Some naturalistas are so adept with styling their own hair, that they would rather forgo using a hair stylist for their wedding day. Other natural hair brides, like myself, would feel more comfortable having a professional style their hair. If you decide to go with a stylist, do your research and check for reviews from others who have used their services. A thorough check on various social media platforms should give you an idea of whether they come recommended or not. Additionally, a consultation with the stylist will give you a feel of what he/she is like, how they manage natural hair, etc.
  3. Up Your Natural Hair Care Regimen:
If you have been slacking on taking proper and adequate care of your natural hair (regular washing, DCs, detangling, trimming, moisturizing, protective styling, etc), the earlier you start, the better. You want your hair to be in tip-top shape BEFORE the wedding comes up.

Great tips. I am one of those people who are adapt at styling their own hair. I don't do hairdressers, too expensive and they always want to chop!
