So Dimeji, I, Tonya, and Felix, the guy Tonya started dating recently went on a double date. I still have a few reservations about Felix, but I’ll just keep my fingers crossed, and give him a benefit of doubt. I think he’s into Tonya more because she’s a mixed race child of a rich man, rather than her personality. More like a trophy babe thing. Anyway, time will tell, and I will be sure to keep a hawk eye on him.

The plan was for Dimeji to pick me from my sister’s house Saturday morning, so he can drop his car at Tonya’s house, since our destination is on the island, where Tonya and Felix would be waiting for us. We would then all hop into Felix’s car, and embark on our journey. Once the outing was over, we would return to Tonya’s house to pick his car, and he would take me home.

On getting to Tonya’s house, Tonya and I came up with this crazy idea, to swap partners in the car, so it could be more fun, and whatever ice was left could be broken.

When I saw Felix’s car, I was really impressed. The whole interior was pure leather, and all. I could bet my bottom dollar that he had started using the car, brand new.

Anyway, I got into the seat beside that of the driver, and Tonya eased beside Dimeji at the back. Instantly, I saw Dimeji roll his eyes, while Felix was like “Ehm, ladies, what is going on?”

I left Tonya to do the explanation.

“It’s just to lighten the mood. We can also get to know one another better before we get where we are going.”

Felix shrugged, but I could sense he wasn’t really impressed with the arrangement.  So off we went, after he turned on the radio, and reduced he volume a bit.

We both made attempt at light conversations here and there, but they sounded forced. I didn’t really get much out of him. To make it worse, Dimeji and Tonya were flowing like a stream, and laughing out loud. I began to wonder who sent me message, and started to think whether the mix up idea was started by me or Tonya.

After about 45 minutes, we got to our first destination. I was the first to alight from the car. I had barely placed my second foot on the ground when I heard “what is this?”

I looked back to see the cause of the confusion, when saw Felix’s eyes fixed on the head rest of the chair. I instantly had a feeling that something bad had happened, and whatever it was, I was the cause.

All eyes moved to the cause for attention, and I instantly noticed some a very large greasy and sticky patch on the head rest. I instantly touched my hair, and knew I had goofed. I was really embarrassed.

“Oh, I am sorry. It must have been the gel on my hair. I guessed I used too much. I apologise.”

The look on Felix’s face clearly told me he was not buying the apology.

“So what are we going to do about it now? This can cause a whole lot of damage on the leather in the long run.”

I was still thinking of what to say when the ever faithful Tonya flew to my rescue. “But Felix, it is nothing. I will just clean it up.” In an instant, she brought out a wipe from her purse, and started wiping the sticky mess up.

I didn’t even want to look at Dimeji’s face, or imagine what he must have been thinking. I started praying for the double date to end, before it even had the chance to begin. Felix wouldn’t be happy. Tonya wouldn’t be happy that Felix wasn’t having fun. I wouldn’t be happy because I would feel guilty about Felix not having fun, and Dimeji wouldn’t be happy because I was not happy. It was already a disaster from get go.

“You ladies and all these things you put on your hair.” Felix said. The look he gave Tonya implied that this kind of thing wasn’t happening for the first time, since she even had more strange hair products than me. I really felt awkward, especially because I had never gotten along with him, and he seemed too stiff and rigid for my good.

I felt Dimeji by my side, but I was still too embarrassed to look at him. Once Tonya was done cleaning the head rest, we locked up the car, and started walking to the entrance of the mall. As we got towards the entrance, Dimeji’s phone suddenly rang. We kept walking when we suddenly heard Dimeji’s voice raise an alarm.

“What? I hope it’s not too serious.” All eyes looked at Dimeji, with question in them.

“Okay, we’ll be there soon.” He concluded.

“What happened?” I asked.

“Anna, your mum just called me. She has been trying to reach you, but your line is not going through. She said your Boma just fell from the staircase, and the bruise is bad. Your brother in law wants you to come right now.”

I was shocked. Boma can be a pain, but I can’t bear it when she’s in pain.

“I am sorry Anna. What will you do now?” It was Tonya.

“I have to go. I am so sorry I can’t wait. I need to take care of Boma. I think we should fix another date.”

I am sure Felix was like “Yeah right, another date indeed.”

I hugged Tonya, and bade goodbye to Felix.

When we finally got into a taxi, Dimeji said “So, you definitely owe me from saving you a second time from an embarrassing situation caused by this hair of yours.”

“What?” I was shocked. “You mean Boma did not fall? You fabricated all that?”

“I knew you were feeling somehow, and would never have been comfortable throughout, so there was no use staying for the date.” He smiled. “Let’s get my car, and go somewhere else, preferably on the mainland, so we don’t run into ferocious Felix.”

I smiled. That is why I just love this guy.
