Ghana Hair Chick's Letters: Heat Training Natural Hair?

Hello lovely naturalistas! I hope we're all doing well.
Today I wanted to share something I found pretty interesting. Some natural haired ladies use heat to 'train' their hair and loosen the kinks so its more manageable. It helps to reduce knots and tangles according to them.
Here's a video for more details. Just in case you can't view the video, here is the link: http://youtu.be/sdAFhKuvPvE

What do you think? Would you heat train your hair? Leave a comment about the post below, and if you're the first to drop your email and network of choice along with your comment, the recharge card of N500 is yours.

Have a great weekend!

    1. That's a good consideration since response to heat is very individual.

  3. Hello Yvonne, i think in her case it will make her hair more manageable because her hair is super thick and long it might be just too tiresome! but for others with relatively shorter hair hair hmmmm i guess its a matter of choice

  4. Wow i guess in her case its understandable as her hair is super long and thick! but for someone else with medium hair i wont advice that but then its a matter of choice

    1. Lol..the interesting thing is that she has always used heat on her hair, since she big chopped. If you check her hair journey video she mentions that for her heat was always a part of her journey. And I've also heard another vlogger with gorgeous hair say the same thing. She started using heat a very short time after going natural and her hair became super thick and manageable. Both of them had short hair that was not thick, but still chose to use heat. I guess its a personal choice for them, and heat also affects everyone differently, so that could be a factor.

  6. No way Jose! Why not just texlax? It seems to me heat training is more damaging seeing as u probably have to pass ur hair several times thru heat. Whereas if u texlaxed, you'll only use relaxer on a particular section of new growth once. And for a very short period of time. Well to each his/her own. Bookworm1790@yahoo.com

    1. Well actually people who heat train use very low heat on their hair. They only use medium heat on new growth to make it more manageable, kind of like texlaxing. I also don't think their hair becomes straight because the lady in this video has another video of her wet hair, and her wet hair still very coily! If she lets her hair airdry, it simply goes back to the coily texture. I guess that might be a difference between heat training and texlaxing, especially for those who want to avoid chemicals.

  10. okay. Lemme play the devil's advocate here. I am still thinking about the motive behind that video. She did not reduce any tangles with what she did, cos the hair was already straightened with heat, and had absolutely no tangles in it. What I learnt from the video is how long her hair really is. The video should have been titled "how to flat iron your hair to do a length check", lol

In any case, I love her her hair length. WOw

    1. Lol..But the argument she makes is doing this over and over has helped reduce the tangles, so if you don't see tangles then she must be right! Haha
